50 years ago today, the ban on Women playing football in Scotland was finally lifted. The effects of this ban are understandably still felt today.
Thanks to the work of pioneers like Elsie Cook, Sadie Smith and Rose Reilly, Women are allowed to play football in Scotland today.
There’s still plenty of work to be done. But today is a day for celebration 🏴

The First World War sees women’s teams flourish across Scotland for the duration of the war. Over 60 matches are played between 1917 and 1918.
