Teddy Roosevelt Was Shot During A Campaign Speech But Kept Speaking With A Bullet In His Chest.

During a campaign speech in Milwaukee, WI, on October 14, 1912, Theodore Roosevelt was shot by John Flammang Schrank. Roosevelt, wearing a thick overcoat, was leaving the Pfister Hotel when Schrank emerged from the crowd and fired at him. The bullet passed through the coat, a manuscript, and an eyeglass case before becoming lodged in Roosevelt's chest muscle. Remarkably, Roosevelt assessed his condition, found no blood, and continued with his speech, declaring his resilience as a "Bull Moose."

In a surprising display of composure and courage, Roosevelt shielded Schrank from the crowd and ensured his arrest by the police. Despite the potentially dangerous bullet in his chest, doctors determined that removing it would cause more harm, so Roosevelt carried it for the remainder of his life as a testament to his indomitable spirit.
