I extend my congratulations to the 2025 United Nations Nelson Mandela Prize laureates: Ms. Brenda Reynolds of Canada and Mr. Kennedy Odede of Kenya.
We recognise that this prestigious award not only honors the enduring legacy of Nelson Mandela but also reaffirms the power of multilateralism as embodied by the tireless efforts of these two recipients.
Ms. Reynolds, a social worker of Saulteaux heritage, has made significant contributions to the health and well-being of Indigenous communities in Canada while Mr. Odede, the founder and CEO of Shining Hope for Communities, delivers essential services to urban slums in Kenya.
I wish to convey my gratitude to the Selection Committee for the 2025 Nelson Mandela Prize for the work undertaken.
Every step you take towards your goals makes a difference even if you can't see it at times. Progress is progress. Stay focused on what matters to you. It will all align for you. Things work in the background when you are consistent. Choose a positive mindset and never quit.
Don't cling to your past just because you think it was the best thing to happen to you. It was good but that doesn't mean you don't deserve more joy. Let go of baggage. There is much more joy waiting. There are blessings waiting for you. The best is yet to come.
Find happiness in little things. Find peace and joy in songs little birds sing in the morning, aroma of first coffee of the day, warmth of sunshine on your face, strangers smiling back at you, flowers blooming in the garden. Make every day a happy day.
You are not too late. There is still time to make your dreams come true. You are already progressing little by little. There is no limit to how much you can grow. There is no expiration date for your dreams. There is no deadline for leveling up. Keep moving. Things will work out.
Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you. You will only find the happiness you seek when you drop your negative attitude towards life, embrace life and be happy. If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
People are quick to judge because understanding your journey isn't easy. Let them have opinions. You know what you went through. You spent lonely days struggling. Own up your progress. Be proud of yourself. You have done a fantastic job. Keep shining and spreading your light.
Being in a positive state of mind is more important than you might think as the mind cannot be creative in a negative state. New ideas, thoughts and inspiration will only take place when the mind is positive. Positive thinking will let you do everything better.
