Our collaborative #NSF shark denticle team is growing! The 'Accessible Shark' summer #REU program is in full swing and we managed to get the whole group together at Harvard and WHOI for our annual meet-up! So many denticles, so much progress! ๐ฆ #teamdenticle#shark#skinteeth
We started off 2024 strong, expecting it to be a great year. But daycare had other plans for us...3 days in and the entire family has covid. Has to stay home for another week...Maybe this means we will catch a break for the rest of the season? One can hope #MomsinAcademia
Catch some of our denticle work this week at #SICB2024. I unfortunately am not in attendance, but there is a lot of cool denticle science happening, so check it out!
The shark #denticle#multiverse will be on display at #sicb2024 this week. See talks in the @SICB_DCB_DVM sessions. So much diversity, so little time ... below the #ontogeny of sleeper shark denticles from Vaz et al. 2023: https://t.co/c3kW714PDu
Had an awesome seminar via zoom this morning by Dr. @MarBioMoll on her research on shark skin! Then students dissected a dogfish shark and were enamored w itโs denticles, naturally. Cutting them from all parts of the body to look for differences!
My SICB+ talk is uploaded! Check it out if you want to learn about the amazing ontogenetic changes in denticle morphology in leopard sharks! @georgelauder@tteavery2@SICB_DCB_DVM@SICB_
