Earlier this month, the Birds Canada Atlantic team got together and carved pumpkins. We had Common Nighthawk, Bank Swallow, and Chimney Swifts, so it's safe to say that aerial insectivores stole the show! Show us your bird-y carvings, costumes, and décor! Happy Halloween!

Masonry chimneys used by swifts were mostly built prior to the 1960s. As these buildings age and disappear, so does habitat for swifts. With few natural habitat options, it is important that we keep as many chimneys available for them as we can
@NYCbirder @NYCAudubon@wildbirdfund@USFWSBirds@ABCbirds@audubonsociety@AudubonNY@AudubonNC@PBS We often mention in presentations that many of the chimneys were built in the 60s or earlier, and we don't know the built by date for all sites, but suspect we'd find similar results here in Nova Scotia/New Brunswick. Great to see this visualized!
