@EAST_TRAUMA mentorship family lives on at ACS COT this year. Was so excited for the opportunity to present and meet trauma surgeons across the country #mentorship
So very proud of @UAMS_Surgery PGY2 @Marayanicole presenting our work on Hypothermic ROTEM protocols at @EAST_TRAUMA annual meeting. Well done!! Project accepted for an EAST MCT…if you’re interested in participating, please reach out!! #EAST2024 @uams_trauma @JMargolick
While other Arkansans are eating turkey, watching football games or shopping for Black Friday bargains, Dr. Joseph F. Margolick will be thousands of miles away, tending to the medical needs of sick people in a war zone. https://t.co/PUYP8lONxk
Was so incredibly excited and honored to represent @UAMS_Surgery and @uams_trauma at this year’s Region 6 ACS COT. Many important and clinically relevant topics were presented - I’m so proud to call so many resident surgeons out there my colleagues
Other groups looking at imposter syndrome in faculty found younger physicians, VA physicians, those at top researches and those in academic institutions reported higher levels of imposter syndrome.
Great reads! Remember to support your colleagues and celebrate your success.
Physicians in leadership and non-leadership roles were analyzed. Females, regardless of leadership status, were more likely to report imposter syndrome, quite significantly. They did not find an association between racially minorities groups and prevalence of imposter syndrome.
As for faculty, you are not immune! In a recent study by Iwai et al and discussed on The Operative Word by @DanteYeh and senior author Oluwadamilola Fayanju (spotify podcast linked below) we see some interesting things.

How do we overcome this negative cycle? Intentional efforts at the system, organization and individual level, evolve from a culture of perfectionism to one of excellence, mentorship, take a second to celebrate success/acknowledge positive feedback
Impact of imposter syndrome: stress, job and personal dissatisfaction, burnout, suicidal ideation, habit of negating personal success or attributing it to extrinsic factors vs intrinsic ability
Who can have it? Well, anyone, but its particularly prevalent in surgical residents (76% Bhama et al) although attendings are not immune (more to come on that later)
What are some contributing factors? female gender, under-representation, trainee/early career status
Imposter syndrome - what is it? a psychological phenomenon characterized by feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and a fear of being exposed as a fraud, despite having achieved success in their chosen field.
Last week, we hosted The Summit on the Advancement of Focused Equity Research in Trauma (SAFER-Trauma) at our headquarters in Chicago. Check out the conference highlights!
