PART TWO — DINA EZZAT

This is the second part of my post about Dina Ezzat—a young Egyptian woman, newly graduated and newly married.

Dina’s “crime”? She spoke out.

She recorded videos alleging that security personnel had unlawfully arrested her husband, raided their newly established home, and taken their money, gold jewelry and other valuables. She documented what happened and publicly asked for help and accountability.

Then came this video.

Dina herself is being arrested. The footage shows her being assaulted, violently pulled and dragged in the street, in public, in front of witnesses.

A young woman who should be beginning her life and building her future with her husband is instead being dragged away after publicly seeking help.

To the international community and governments that continue to support Sisi’s government: please watch this video. Do not look away.

If a young woman can be treated like this openly, in front of people and cameras, there must be urgent concern about her safety once the doors of detention close behind her.

Where is Dina Ezzat now? Is she safe? Who is protecting her?

We call for her safety, her rights, and an independent investigation into her allegations, arrest and treatment.
