STATEMENT: WFP is deeply concerned by recent notifications from the US administration indicating that funding for emergency food assistance in 14 countries has been terminated.
🔵If implemented, this could amount to a death sentence for millions of people facing extreme hunger and starvation. We are in contact with the US administration to seek clarification and to urge for continued support for these life-saving programmes.
🔵WFP is grateful for the contributions it receives from the US and all its donors. Our staff continue to work tirelessly to reach vulnerable communities with vital food assistance in hunger hot spots around the world.
The ceasefire deal for Gaza brings hope, but hope alone can’t feed families in need. @WFP food aid is ready at the borders for 1M+ acutely hungry people. Open crossings, protect aid workers, and let relief flow.
All must act with urgency—Palestinians need food now.
What do women carry in a war?
In #Gaza, they carry so many things. Their children, their hopes, their fears.
But most importantly, Palestinian women are carrying Gaza on their shoulders.
This #WomensDay, our colleague Nour shares what she sees in the women of Gaza ⤵️
If implemented, the laws adopted today by the Knesset of Israel would likely prevent @UNRWA from continuing its essential work in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, with devastating consequences for Palestine refugees.
I call on Israel to act consistently with its obligations under the Charter of the @UN & international law. National legislation cannot alter those obligations.
I am bringing this matter to the attention of the UN General Assembly, and will keep the Assembly closely informed as the situation develops.
There is no alternative to UNRWA.
"I thought those fighting hard for peace in Gaza would deserve it."
Toshiyuki Mimaki, the Japanese anti-nuclear campaigner whose group, Nihon Hidankyo, won the Nobel Peace Prize, says he was surprised they won the award instead of people working to stop Israel’s war on Gaza.

“There are no safe havens across the entirety of the Gaza strip… People go to sleep scared; they wake up scared.” @mfjhollingworth from the @WFP tells me what people in Gaza are facing right now.
#Rafah: Our main warehouse is now inaccessible. No aid has entered from southern crossings in 2 days. Thousands of ppl are on the move. Only 1 bakery is still working. Supplies of food & fuel in #Gaza will only last 1-3 days. Without them, our operations will go into standstill.
I am disturbed & distressed by the renewed military activity in Rafah by the Israeli Defence Forces.
I urge the Government of Israel to stop any escalation, and engage constructively in the ongoing diplomatic talks.
🌱 Building resilient #FoodSystems is crucial for any community, but it's key for those hit by crises.
WFP works to construct stable, sustainable, and inclusive food systems around the world.
Rushini in #SriLanka explains ⤵️
These are the people of #Gaza.
WFP is providing food to more than a million people each month.
As famine closes in, we need daily deliveries to the north and throughout the Strip. Above all, we need a humanitarian ceasefire.
