@MervHughes332 Australia's recent record in England is far superior to England's in Australia. Australia have consistently been the better team for 30 plus years in my view, and I'm a Pom! (Though bought up for a time in Oz).
@DickMackintosh With this government, the state clearly cannot fix any of its own problems, caused by the litany of cock-ups from the last 12 years. Move over Tories, time for fresh leadership, thinking and action.
@andreajenkyns I think that might not grab attention in the same way perhaps. I might try striking while on holiday and see what that gets me. That's called thinking out of the box!
As Ursula Von der Leyen says "We are stronger together", well the EU nations are. Their gas and electricity prices are now down 90% and 80% respectively. Ours are not because we left the EU pricing mechanisms. Our inflation is due to ultility price increases, food prices and general inflation, greatly increased by leaving the EU. Wages are spiralling for people to survive and because of labour shortages and because they have been suppressed for so many years. We lost 4.5% of growth each year, which accumulates. An economy cannot cope with inflation if it does not have growth. The cork is effectively in a bottle which is exploding! The governments answer; it is down to the bank to control with interest rate rises. That will probably cause a recession. Doesn't that exacerbate the problem? The only basic common sense answer is rejoin the EU and regain the lost growth as quickly as possible. Is there any alternative?
@MichaelTakeMP I think a fair few people moaned back then tbh. The 'get on your bike' theory falls apart when you can't afford a bike as your mortgage is too crippling. Merely surviving should be considered a failure for a top 10 GDP economy of the world. Plus Netflix didn't exist back then.
@Rob_Kimbell This is interesting @Rob_Kimbell but what are the rates in more closely comparable economies such as Germany, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Spain. The list makes the UK look as though we are performing relatively well, but this could be misleading.
First British tourists of the summer season are here. Middle aged couple with a caravan that had a UKIP sticker in the window. Assumed I spoke English, asked for directions, I replied in French. The woman tutted, rolled her eyes and said,
"They don't even try to speak English"

That's all good then. The fact that our sovereignty was already OK while we were part of the EU is not relevant. Now we can decide on the size of our own sausages without the EU stepping in and confusing things is so helpful to economic growth & political stability.
