Today I've worked on one of the most gorgeous Autochrome plates I've seen. It was taken in colour about 116 years ago, and it depicts Suzanne Lumière - daughter of Louis Lumière who co-invented the Autochrome process. She is seated in a woodland glade, backlit with stunning depth of field, eating a bowl of cherries whilst wearing a striking red cardigan which complements the colour of the fruit beautifully. It is art, romanticism and technical brilliance rolled into one. They don't get much better than this.
It was taken using the family's early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.
Frank Culbertson, Expedition 3 Commander aboard the @Space_Station, captured this photo as smoke rose from the Twin Towers in New York City 25 years ago today.
We pause to reflect on that terrible day and pay tribute to the victims, survivors, and heroes of the 9/11 attacks.
One week ago – @NASARoman launched to orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Kennedy.
And here is a view you may not have seen! A drone captured Roman lifting off from Launch Complex 39A, showcasing the power, precision, and beauty of launch day.
Designed to explore the mysteries of dark energy, exoplanets, and the structure of the universe, Roman will help us see the cosmos like never before.

Not to add to the discourse, but…
It’s ‘toe the line,’ not ‘tow the line.’
It’s ‘free rein,’ and not ‘free reign.’
It’s ‘eke out,’ not ‘eek out.’
It’s ‘sleight of hand,’ not ‘slight of hand.’
It's ‘Anchors aweigh,’ and not ‘Anchor's away!’
Star trails from the ISS! Lots of cool physics to see in these. Stars moving as thin lines in the direction of our orbital path but forming arcs to the left of our velocity vector. Lightning flashes making purple spots into the time history. City lights streak by. A faint red glow is seen as part of our upper atmosphere. Surreal!
A gray wolf has been spotted in California’s Sequoia National Park for the first time in more than 100 years!
The three-year-old female, known as BEY03F, was born in northern California and has traveled an impressive distance south, likely in search of a mate and new territory.
@RolandOrzabal_ My fellow GenX bestie and I were canoeing down the Deschutes River in Oregon earlier this week and passed a group of teen boys playing this song while swimming in the river. We were so surprised and charmed that they could appreciate a brilliant 80s hit!
During our Odyssey unit in high school we had to read @MargaretAtwood’s “Siren Song,” which reveals what the sirens sang, and I’ve been haunted by the final lines ever since.
