"David Eby’s criticism of Save-On-Foods and Jim Pattison is puzzling. The premier champions local food, yet Save-On-Foods, a B.C.-based independent grocer, has supported B.C. growers and promoted their products for years."
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1969.
Stated goals for Indigenous to get them out of their squalor.
“We have set the Indians apart as a race. We’ve set them apart in our laws. We’ve set them apart in the ways the governments will deal with them. They’re not citizens of the province as the rest of us are. They are wards of the federal government. They get their services from the federal government rather than from the provincial or municipal governments. They have been set apart in law. They have been set apart in the relations with government and they’ve been set apart socially too.
“We can go on treating the Indians as having a special status. We can go on adding bricks of discrimination around the ghetto in which they live and at the same time perhaps helping them preserve certain cultural traits and certain ancestral rights. Or we can say you’re at a crossroads – the time is now to decide whether the Indians will be a race apart in Canada or whether [they] will be Canadians of full status.”

It’s refreshing to see mature, respectful conversations about energy and pipelines on social media. A year ago, speaking up brought harassment, personal attacks, and questions about my morals, character and even about my Indigenous ancestry.
Today, the debate feels more open, thoughtful, and constructive. I’m proud to be among the many Indigenous voices challenging the stereotype that Indigenous people don’t support the energy sector. Slowly breaking that narrative is a win and an important step toward having more honest conversations.
CANCELLED!
Tonight’s All-Candidates Meeting (Delta) was cancelled because of “safety” concerns and “trauma” from me turning my back on the land acknowledgment at the previous meeting.
Was Kinew, @WabKinew you are a liar.
3 photos in your reel to lie to Canadians and cast blame on a school. Your own content exposes your lies. Read the photos carefully. And yet you use them to push propaganda 🤔
I grew up in a white Irish family from Kamloops that held great respect and empathy for the natives and their various challenges.
My grandfather volunteered at the Sanatorium there, my aunt fostered numerous orphaned native girls over the years, and I played on the grounds of the Residential School in the 70's with these girls I regarded as cousins.
I heard stories about life on the reserves that I will keep to myself.
There was definitely a cemetery on the school grounds, as well as a neglected orchard. I remember it well but it was neglected even then with wooden crosses lying flat and a broken fence.
I'm not surprised that all traces of it are gone now. What people (and the media) fail to consider is that childhood diseases claimed the lives of 1 in 5 children back then. Many families could not afford to return a deceased child to their respective reserves. That's how you end up with graves on the school grounds.
My main issue is with the mainstream media and certain band members. They seem to want us to believe that murderous nuns were hurling babies into pits after who knows what sordid atrocities were committed.
This is absurd.
Many students prospered and went on to have successful careers giving them the means to help their families back on the reserve.
Why does the media ignore the successes?
Might they have an agenda?
I'm not claiming there were no abuses, or that the school system was a good idea, but the intent was honourable and many kids and their families benefited.
Claims of genocide are equally absurd.
