@throughchrist17 It's a sign of diabetes or being prediabetic: you're thirsty. Your blood sugar is really high, especially in the morning because it's your fasting blood sugar. I also have a suspicion that your body is chronically inflamed and it requires a lot of water to be inflamed.
I would say that the moral reasoning of this author is profoundly retarded, but that would be to excuse it far too lightly.
It is actually profoundly evil.
First, the author is troubled by the retributive function of justice. Scripture is not. God has explicitly authorized the ruler to wield the sword of retributive justice.
Not "rehabilitation." Not "restorative" justice. Vengeance. Wrath. Eye for eye. Blood for blood.
This is the legal principle of Genesis 9, Exodus 21, Romans 13, 1 Peter 2, and more. Christians don't seek personal vengeance, yes. But magistrates do seek to establish retributive justice—and insofar as they carry out this duty well, they serve as God's deacon. It is God's retribution they enact, not merely man's.
When Lindsay Clancy methodically strangled her children to death, she put herself in the seat of judgment before God's earthly minister of justice. That justice is yet to be carried out—to our shame.
Second, the leap from, "Scripture recognizes that mens rea is part of the classical calculus for determining moral culpability for a crime" to "Therefore the modern insanity defense is Christian," is frankly absurd.
When a man swings an axe to chop some firewood and the head flies off, injuring or even killing someone accidentally, he has emphatically not done the same thing as the schizophrenic or psychotic who murders another. These are not morally analogous. They are certainly not analogous to the methodical, premeditated actions of Lindsay Clancy.
The way our modern legal system treats the insanity defense is likely flawed on a fundamental moral level. But even beyond this, it has swollen to absurdity along with the explosion of psychological and psychiatric "diagnoses" of our modern day.
We have pathologized and diagnosed the human person until he is barely morally culpable for any of his actions. He's not a drunk, he's "struggling with addiction." She's not a baby killer, she's "experiencing postpartum psychosis." There's always a loophole for his actions, always some way to shift the blame to his hormones or his environment of his socioeconomic realities.
To hell with all of it. The blood of the innocent indicts us. It says, "How long? How long will I go without justice?"
Sometimes we need someone who loves us enough to tell us the truth:
Motherhood requires you to dive in.
It requires sacrifice.
It requires denying yourself again and again and making the conscious decision:
Them before me.
It’s really such a shame there’s no brick and motor store that sells maternity clothes anymore. Target stopped carrying them in store. Walmarts section is pathetically small. Old Navy you can only order online. No more Motherhood Maternity.
Very anti-natalist if you ask me.
It is indeed more ideal to have a slightly messy, cozy home where everyone is *cheerfully* being productive, than to have a tidy home where nobody is ever free to try (and maybe fail) to turn a profit.
It all hinges on the cheerfulness.
@AlexForbesOps Made this cake last week for my daughter's 1st. It was a 3 layer lemon sponge w/ cream cheese frosting. It cost me less than $15.
However, I understand the value of a $200 cake. It's what I would charge for time and skill.
But there are ways to spend less and still gather.
I know things look bad, but never take the black pill.
- Christ is presently reigning from the right hand of the Father.
- He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
- The Great Commission is not a hopeful suggestion; it is a guaranteed success.
- The nations will be discipled.
- The knowledge of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.
- The leaven will leaven the whole lump.
- History will bend toward the triumph of the gospel before the final return.
- Every knee will bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
