Sheffield again demonstrates today that we will not be divided by those who want to sow fear & hate. We take great pride in being a welcoming city and celebrating our diversity.
Strong and proactive policing all day. Thank you to @syptweet for working hard to keep people safe.
My dad grew up in extreme poverty and his education was spotty and ended at 14. Never in his life did he blame immigrants, the more vulnerable than him or refugees for his early misfortunes. He knew the hunger of his youth came from the greed of the entitled and capitalism.
Very proud to see a huge number of people turning out against hate today. A handful of poisonous individuals run out of the city centre #Sheffield#protest
We're at the huge anti-fascist rally in Sheffield city centre.
Around half a dozen far-right activists were here earlier, but were quickly driven out of Barker's Pool by a crowd of around 500 Sheffielders.
Far-right violence hasn’t come out of nowhere.
It is the result of anti-migrant rhetoric from mainstream politicians who scapegoat refugees.
We are an anti-racist movement that believes in a more inclusive world. We defeated the far right before. We will defeat them again.
Last night was a watershed moment not only for our country but also for the Muslim and BAME communities of Sheffield, with the election of @Abtisam_Mohamed as our city's first Muslim MP and the first Arab in the UK to enter the mother of all parliaments.
What a historic moment!
