"In Gaza, the extensive use of explosive weapons in a densely populated environment has caused exceptionally high levels of death, traumatic injury, displacement and destruction, and left an estimated 68 million metric tonnes of debris and potentially contaminated rubble where hundreds and hundreds of missing people now lie.

Explosive ordnance remains embedded in collapsed homes, damaged infrastructure and rubble. This creates immediate risks to civilians, while making humanitarian access, debris management, the dignified recovery of human remains, reconstruction, and return considerably more difficult."

I am disgusted by scenes of an Israeli Minister glorifying violence with the image of a noose on his lapel and his birthday cake. Celebrating executions is despicable. The Israeli Government must urgently repeal its discriminatory death penalty law.

Gravely concerned by reports #Israel cabinet in April approved 34 new settlements in occupied West Bank – the highest number ever approved at one time. This continues the sharp upward trend of unlawful settlement building that extends & consolidates Israel's annexation of occupied Palestinian territory.

Israel must immediately cease the establishment & expansion of settlements, & reverse its settlement policies by evacuating all settlers & ending the occupation of Palestinian territory.

Ten children have died from hypothermia in #Gaza since the onset of winter.
As cold temperatures and heavy rains intensify, children and families sheltering in poorly insulated, makeshift structures face extreme exposure, with little protection from the elements.

Winter conditions, combined with severe overcrowding and inadequate water and sanitation, are increasing the risk of disease outbreaks. Acute respiratory infections are rising, alongside a growing number of severe cases requiring ICU admission.

@WHO continues to support health facilities with essential medicines and equipment. In addition, with support from @AFD_en and @MBRInitiatives, WHO will provide blankets, warm hats for newborns, and thermal “survival” blankets to protect patients from the cold.

WHO reiterates its calls for sustained and unimpeded access across the Gaza Strip, and for the timely entry of essential medical supplies and equipment, as well as winterization and shelter materials — all of which are critical to saving lives.

State-backed settler violence has become a key driver of forced displacement, chipping away at Palestinian presence in strategic locations.
Between 23 and 25 January, at least 10 serious settler attacks were recorded across the West Bank, resulting in property damage, injuries, and forcible displacement of Palestinian families.

Yesterday’s announcement of US sanctions against two more judges of the @IntlCrimCourt represents a further intensification of reprisals against international institutions.

Israel must immediately release peaceful Palestinian anti-settlement activist Ayman Ghrayeb, who appears to be arbitrarily detained, along with all other arbitrarily detained Palestinians.
While settlers are escalating attacks against Palestinians across the West Bank, Israeli security forces have ramped up the detention of Palestinian and foreign activists providing protective presence against settlers’ violence.
Ayman Ghrayeb was abducted by settlers on 17 November while documenting the plight of one of many Palestinian communities in the West Bank facing the imminent risk of forcible transfer. He was then detained by ISF who only informed the lawyer of his whereabouts two days later.
Ghrayeb was interrogated about his work documenting settler violence on social media, but no formal charge was filed. His lawyer said she was informed that he will be placed on arbitrary administrative detention even before his interrogation. He was also reported to have been severely beaten, leading to his hospitalisation.
As of November 2025, there are 3368 Palestinians in administrative Israeli detention, which, in the context of the OPT, is generally arbitrary, whereas the practice was abolished for Jewish Israelis by the current Israeli government.

“The case of Umm Al Khair is emblematic of an ever-escalating wave of Israeli steps to consolidate annexation of the West Bank. Time is ticking — the international community must exercise pressure to protect Umm Al Khair residents from the imminent threat of forced displacement.”

Huge relief that the hostages held in Gaza and many Palestinians detained in Israel are now free. We hope that the remains of hostages still in Gaza, as well as all Palestinian remains that continue to be kept by Israeli authorities will now also be quickly returned.

There is so much to be done still to help those left suffering.
