1/9 The claim that Oman “played both sides” until its neutrality collapsed gets the story backwards. Oman did not negotiate with Iran and thereby create the Hormuz crisis. It negotiated because Hormuz was already paralysed by war and confrontation. 🧵
World Humanitarian Day falls this week, so hats off to aid workers struggling to help others even when they are defunded and targeted. Last year 350 aid workers were killed, mostly in Gaza and Sudan, and 235 were kidnapped. So thank you for your courage and dedication.
This image was sent to me from the field. These are messages US servicemen in the Persian Gulf have scribbled on the dust of an aircraft flap.
"Be a good guy and do what Israel tells you to"
"Operation Epstein Fury"
"Peace deal #64 incoming... ALL THIS FOR THE HOLY LAND"
I have no frame of reference, I can't compare it to the sentiments of US soldiers in previous conflicts. But I suspect these are new sentiments, or at least a new willingness to express them this openly and directly.
But as one serviceman told me: "What people in the media don't understand when they compare past conflicts to this one, is this operation has no morale behind it. That makes a world of difference to service members deployed to undesirable locations indefinitely."
Read that last part again: No morale. Deployed to undesirable locations INDEFINITELY.
My own conclusion: When a war has no morale behind it, winning means that you simply end it. There is no other "winning" in such an unjust war.
Migrants manipulated to create political pressure on Spain.
Many governments’ reactions driven by domestic politics — zero genuine concerns.
EU coordination hesitant, difficult to understand.
Not a word of compassion for the victims.
#Ceuta: what a failure, Europe.
Unsurprising that Jonatan is one of the rare high level officials to bluntly describe what happened in Ceuta as a migration attack.
Too many European leaders dismally failed the test. They remain woefully unprepared for the geopolitical big leagues.
Israeli authorities and security forces deliberately targeted Palestinian children, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza, and war crimes in the occupied West Bank, an independent UN inquiry said https://t.co/61poVhRzmR
This week, my @YouTube video adds to my series recommending key Asian filmmakers and African filmmakers, this time with 5 classic and influential Arab directors who'll give you a sense of the history of this cinema across several countries! 🌍🎬🍿 ➡️ https://t.co/gSuIhsnd5u
Trita Parsi @tparsi, Executive Vice President of Quincy Institute, is reportedly being investigated by the U.S. Administration and may be in danger of being deported. I can only hope that is a scare tactic, or just fake news, bc not only would such an attempt to silence a critic of America's foolish war in Iran be unconstitutional, it would be incredibly foolish.
Trita has been on our show many times, and has ALWAYS been a voice of reason, of intelligence, and perhaps most of all: pro-America. He is a genuine America-firster and all of his advice and critique has been centered on trying to convince the government to avoid policies that are harmful to us and to pursue policies from which we can benefit.
We need more men like Trita Parsi in the national dialogue.
Solidarity with our friend @tparsi, one of the most important voices covering Iran and the Middle East.

UN Special Rapporteur @profbensaul in 2024: "Germany & the United States supply 99% of the weapons exported to Israel. They could stop this conflict overnight if they stopped the weapons that kill the Palestinians"
World leaders must do all in their power to end the Israeli government’s ongoing bombardment and blockage of aid. The people of Gaza cannot wait any longer.
