FIND ME ON INSTAGRAM Writer, immigrant, author of PARENTING WITH AN ACCENT from @BeaconPressBks. Words: NYT, WashPost, LATimes. Rep: Robin Straus Agency 🇺🇦
COVER REVEAL: I'm so over the moon to finally share my book cover!! It's whimsical & bright and the scattered characters from two alphabets capture the immigrant family experience. Super grateful to my publisher @BeaconPressBks and the talented designer Louis Roe.
@kcengel@bowlga Ooh, thank you for tagging me! Lots of stories about Soviet parenting that involve ridiculous amounts of Tchaikovsky and Bach piano pieces - though not sure if that would count as a boy band oeuvre!
Exciting news! My website has been completely revamped and, to celebrate, I am offering a FREE Zoom workshop with @MashaDC and @irenawrites on "Raising Your Bright Child: From Birth Through College." Let me know about any tech problems & see you there. https://t.co/bOG2qO6yW3
Just seen Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich who goes on trial today in Yekaterinburg. Emma Tucker, editor in chief of the WSJ writes: “This bogus accusation of espionage will inevitably lead to a bogus conviction for an innocent man who would then face up to 20 years in prison for simply doing his job.”
@bowlga@YelenaFurman@willevans@sjaszi@zeltserman https://t.co/7L37WBcsZY Here it is! He's got short tutorials for a variety of levels and ages, from rainbow cats to Tri Kota cartoon characters and Minions and a jar of Nutella (all ages, obviously). Hope your kids enjoy some of these!
@YelenaFurman@bowlga@willevans@sjaszi@zeltserman Ooh we definitely had Masha & Medved', but also Malishariki (they are so charming) and some Soviet cartoons. My kids still love YouTube tutorials by RibaKit "Papa Risuet" - it's art and cool animation with language snuck into it (kinda like adding shredded/pureed veggies to food)
@kcengel Thank you! She's just now getting comfortable with having her picture taken and navigating various scenes :) The family could not reach consensus about the name; finalists included "Ginger," "Musya," and "Pumpkin," but to now avail. So now, she just goes by Hamster 🤷♀️
Aahh! Parenting with an Accent has just won the 2023 Sarton Women’s Book Award for Nonfiction! Pinching myself and immensely grateful to @storycircle for the recognition and to @BeaconPressBks & @RStrausAgency for believing in this book baby #SCNBookAwards https://t.co/zX50ztdlJS
