The politics needs to be right for private airlines to fly the route. We can have BA and Virgin flying direct if we fix the politics. Govt should do its job & business will come

@chigodwe @advocatemahere @farai_makomo @nickmangwana The Uganda model is unsustainable. It’s a loss making vanity project. Their flights are never full. The point was about business sustainability for a national airline. Having said that, Uganda is better located than Zim, hence they do transits. Where would Zim transit to?

@owenchings @advocatemahere @farai_makomo @nickmangwana Around a 1/4 of countries partly or wholly own airlines. That leaves circa 3/4 that do not. The govt should concentrate on protecting human, property & commercial rights and you will have top class direct flights to anywhere.

@LynneStactia I agree. We start losing credibility when we oppose for the sake of it. A 10hr direct flight that is cheaper than a 17 to 24hr 1 or 2 stopper is a no brainer. Most countries don’t run airlines. We can argue about why the environment isn’t conducive for private players instead.
