Subtle part of the Kelly Criterion:
Sharpe goes up as fraction of Kelly goes down, especially from .5 -> 1 Kelly.
You should want a margin of safety on never going above .5. Which is an argument to aim for most like .25 Kelly.
Fractyl Health's Revita just produced the most important data on the post-GLP-1 off-ramp that has ever existed.
REMAIN-1: 308-participant, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled pivotal study. People who had lost weight on GLP-1s and then stopped. Half got the Revita procedure (endoscopic ablation of the duodenum). Half got a sham procedure.
Six-month results, announced October 16:
Revita: retained approximately 80% of GLP-1-induced weight loss. Weight regain: 5.1%.
Sham: retained approximately 67%. Weight regain: 8.2%.
The difference is statistically significant (p=0.0023, mITT population). 32% of Revita participants were weight-stable or continued losing weight at six months, vs 18% in the sham group.
CPT code 1122T takes effect January 1, 2027. De Novo FDA filing planned late Q4 2026. One-year data — the second co-primary endpoint — expected Q1 2027.
This is a randomized sham-controlled trial of a procedure designed specifically for the moment after the drug stops. It's the most rigorous off-ramp data produced so far.
The question one-year data needs to answer: does the difference hold at 12 months?

A record supply spike is hitting Las Vegas.
For-sale inventory has surged 58% in the last two years.
And now there's nearly 11,000 listings on the market as of August, a record for the month going back to 2017.
Investor demand has collapsed, and fewer Californians are moving into Vegas, causing home sales to plummet nearly 40% from the pandemic peak.
In fact, I'm finding houses in Vegas down 10-20% in value from their price several years ago, and this could pick up steam heading into 2027.
Note that Vegas has a history of major housing corrections. Prices dropped an astounding 63% in the GFC downturn.
We're currently nowhere near that level yet.
However, Vegas values have already started dropping, and should continue to do so as inventory grows.

@Biohazard3737 Not looking at the full paper but it looks like from the slide there they estimated from cystatin c rather than creatinine. Less affected by muscle mass.

MIT published a brutally honest report on what AI is doing to students.
A committee of professors and students spent five months studying how AI changed learning on campus, and the findings read like a warning to every university on the planet.
Study groups are disappearing. Office hours are emptying out. Problem sets and take-home exams no longer prove anything, because AI can produce credible solutions to almost any written assignment in the undergraduate curriculum. Students who lean on chatbots lose mastery and confidence, and some slip into what the report calls cognitive surrender, reaching for AI at the first hint of struggle.
The numbers are rough. 46 percent of surveyed MIT undergrads use LLMs daily. 90 percent worry about their own overreliance. Undergrads who feel AI makes them replaceable now outnumber those who feel it makes them capable.
The committee's answer surprised me. They refused to fight AI with surveillance. The report calls AI detectors unreliable, says lockdown browsers feel like spying, and warns that policing students builds a classroom atmosphere of mutual distrust.
Instead, MIT wants to rebuild education around the things AI can't replace. That means oral exams, semester portfolios, in-person project work, and a required social component in every subject. The report even floats the idea of rethinking grades entirely, since without a GPA to optimize, much of the incentive to cheat with AI evaporates.
The committee warns professors against replacing undergrad research assistants with AI agents just because they're cheaper, because a university exists to grow people, not output.
The most famous tech school on earth admitted the machines broke its way of teaching. Its answer is more humans, not more software.
If Saudi say it will take a month you should at least double that timeframe considering how long previous repair took like the damages to Jizan (that has been knocked out again afterwards)
#Nigeria 🇳🇬 - Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote's Dangote Refinery (DR) initial public offering #IPO process started at a total valuation USD 48bn and with an offering size USD 1.6bn.
DR is perhaps the world's most modern refinery with current 700k bpd capacity - will be the world's largest in a few years with planned expansion to 1.4mn.
This IPO will be a huge milestone for Nigeria's equity market which has a total market cap of only USD 100bn vs DR offering at USD 48bn. If it helps visibility & re-rating a bit, we're talking about significantly more than USD 150bn size for the total market.
Nigeria is set to return to frontier market status by the FTSE on Sep 21. Going forward, the IPO and FTSE inclusion should be important steps towards MSCI's re-inclusion to its frontier markets index at a significant country weight.
A positive self-fulfilling prophecy for Africa's 3rd largest economy.
JUST IN: El Salvador’s AI tutoring pilot in 171 public schools produced reading, math, & science results above the national average & comparable to Germany & Sweden.
Barron’s says historically Capex cycles tend to peak at 25% of total U.S. GDP
The railroad spending peaked at $2.5B out of $10B GDP
The Dot com spending peaked at ~ $1.5T in $6T economy at the time
Same logic means danger zone for Hyperscalers is ~ $7.5T
So Party back on🤪
@NielsHoven 2/2. Now when reading she's been guessing if she doesnt know a word. I have to tell her - No, don't guess. Then she sounds it out and gets it correct shortly after 🤦🏻♂️
@NielsHoven Happy Mentava user. Have a relevant anecdote to add. Daughter goes to a school with $30k/y tuition. Came home and informed me there's 3 ways to read a book:
1. Sound it out
2. Look at the pictures and guess
3. Just make up a story
She was "taught" that
