New Comet Alert: SWAN25F ☄️

A brand new comet — provisionally named SWAN25F — has just been discovered, and it could become binocular-bright soon!

📍 Closest to the Sun: May 1, 2025
🔭 Where to watch:
• Before May 1: visible in the Northern Hemisphere’s sky
• After May 1: moves into the Southern Hemisphere skies

✨ Visibility forecast:
Expected to reach magnitude 5 — bright enough to see with binoculars! Currently at mag 9 and low in the northwest just before sunrise. It’ll shift into the evening sky by late April, but stay low on the horizon.

🧐 Fun fact:
Although only just discovered on March 23, SWAN25F was already surprisingly bright. Why the late find? It may have had a sudden outburst or simply slipped past surveys due to its orbit. Its small nucleus (likely <2.5 km) suggests it’s a dynamically old comet that’s visited the Sun before.
