Research indicates that collections offering free mints attract a rapid influx of new players.

However, the sustainability of this growth is questionable, as shown by the "Rolling 7-Day MA Flip Rate" charts.

We see free mint flip rates ranging as low as 0.34 times per week to as high as 1.7 times.
​
This indicates that free mints can draw speculators, but well-marketed, fair launches can also build strong, loyal communities.

Paid mints cluster closely, but free mints inspire varied holder attitudes, influenced by community management and value.

Projects with strong, loyal communities had low flip rates (e.g. Kokodi bottoming at 0.34 flips per week per token).
​
On the other hand, Pudgy Penguins peaked at 1.87 times per week as their narrative strengthened with new IP.

Initially, Pudgy holders had limited benefits, but retention increased and stabilized as they added more utility.

Battle Derby launched in March 2024, showing strong retention, profitability, and positive ROI through a free-to-play strategy.
