THE AGM OUTCOME ON THE PROPOSED BOARD FEES - ABSA

At the company’s AGM held on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, the special resolution to approve the proposed non-executive director remuneration did not pass.

In a surprising turn of events, only 56.63% of shareholders voted in favour, while 43.37% voted against it.

Because it was a special resolution, it required at least 75% shareholder support.

In plain language:

Shareholders pushed back.

The company also confirmed that, because more than 25% of votes were cast against the advisory vote on non-executive director remuneration, shareholders will now be invited to raise their concerns or recommendations on the remuneration implementation.

To Absa’s credit, this is what listed-company governance is meant to allow: transparency, shareholder voice and accountability through formal governance processes.

The Minister of Higher Education, Buti Manamela, agrees with the EFF submission that ALL TVET Colleges in South Africa should be FREE!

We shall follow up on this until it is realised.

Our logic is simply; if over 90% TVET College students are NSFAS funded, then why do we need middleman schemes?

Money must move directly from National Treasury to Colleges, and our students must simply register without any financial blockages.

BREAKING: The SAPS has confirmed that Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi’s official vehicle was involved in an accident in which two pedestrians - a mother & her baby were killed.

It’s understood the woman & her two children were trying to cross the N1 near Bela Bela on Saturday when the accident happened. They were trying to get to the scene of a separate accident in which the woman’s husband was also killed.

The Minister was in the car at the time of the accident.
