NUP’s Gorreth Namugga has contested the victory of NRM’s Dez Byuma Oswaldo in Mawogola South, alleging that voters in the constituency were denied a free and fair election. Namugga alleges widespread voter bribery and vote rigging during the election. She has filed an election petition challenging the results and seeking a fresh election, arguing that the alleged irregularities compromised the credibility of the vote in the January 2026 General Election.

Cpl. Fatina Mukolerwa, attached to the Child & Family Protection Unit at Kasangati Police Station, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), was arrested on September 12, 2026, after posting a video alleging senior police interference in the release of a suspect she had arrested.

Mukolerwa said the suspect, Sylvia Arinaitwe, resisted arrest and bit her, requiring Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), medication taken after possible exposure to HIV to reduce the risk of infection. She alleged Arinaitwe’s release on police bond followed contact with a senior police officer and KMP Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ezekiel Ebapu Emitu.

The official @PoliceUg narrative disputes that account. Police said Arinaitwe was bonded after officers found two children, reportedly including a seven-year-old, locked and unattended at home. ACP Emitu said Mukolerwa had bypassed the chain of command and alleged she acted with Arinaitwe’s husband in a disputed property matter. Police also accused Mukolerwa of unprofessional conduct for airing internal grievances on social media rather than using institutional procedures. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for KMP, confirmed Mukolerwa’s arrest and said disciplinary investigations were underway.

We spoke to community members who witnessed the incident. A Local Council 1 official said Arinaitwe and her husband, a UPDF officer, have been involved in a marital dispute for more than seven years, with the matter having previously gone from the LC1 to Police, Bombo Barracks and court. The official said Mukolerwa arrived with three other officers and presented an arrest warrant before proceeding to Arinaitwe’s home. According to the witness, Mukolerwa entered the house alone while the others remained outside and was assaulted during the ensuing confrontation.

A second community source who witnessed events at the Family & Children Protection Unit, told Agora that Arinaitwe also assaulted the Officer in Charge of the Unit before being restrained and taken to the cells. The source said she was later granted police bond that night. Mukolerwa, however, remains in police custody.

Dr. Kizza Besigye - an icon of our struggle, a pillar of resilience, and a true elder of the Ugandan liberation movement.

For decades, Dr. Besigye has consistently chosen conviction over comfort. He has remained steadfast and completely unyielding in the face of brutal persecution, multiple unlawful detentions, and constant threats to his life.

The Museveni regime continues to harass and torment him in the hope that they will break his spirit. Yet, through it all, he continues to stand firm - his spirit unbroken.

While we can never repay him for his enduring leadership and refusal to bow to tyranny, we can stand with him in his hour of need. I am grateful to our friends who have launched this solidarity campaign to raise funds for his welfare and mounting legal costs while he and his colleagues continue to languish in jail.

But honestly, how did we get here as a country, and where are we headed?

I am told that this young man was abducted. This is a young boy, for Christ’s sake, who is simply trying to find his space in Uganda’s politics.

I disagree with him on many things, but you can clearly tell that he is still young and naive about so many things. Why would anyone respond to a young person’s posts on X with abduction? What exactly are we trying to achieve?

He is probably somewhere right now being tortured, but for what? For expressing his views? For being politically naive? For trying to participate in the politics of his own country?

The other day, it was a 73-year-old woman. Now it is a boy in his early 20s.

What kind of country are we becoming? And where does this end?

I remember when NRM apologists were all over, castigating us for using the word 'abduction' to describe the horrific state-led enforced disappearances of our people in those unmarked vehicles. "The state does not abduct, it arrests", they coldy said.

Many went as far as mocking the victims, eagerly regurgitating the propaganda of regime officials who claimed that the abducted and missing had traveled abroad for kyeeyo!

Now, as the machinery turns and more of their own are targeted, their vocabulary has suddenly caught up with the reality—they are loudly calling for an end to "abductions, kidnaps, and seizures."

Isn't it tragic that some people must first experience oppression firsthand just to recognize it? Should it take personal victimization for one to develop a conscience?

One day, you’ll also want to apologize to the Ugandans you’ve abducted and tortured in your so-called basement; to the mothers whose husbands and sons you murdered and denied even a decent burial; and to the women whose dignity you demeaned and whose bodies you objectified.

You’ll wish you could take back the reckless and hateful things you’ve said on X-the insults, threats, evil confessions and obscenities. But history offers no delete button.
Your apology today should remind you that the day will come when you are asking Ugandans for forgiveness but by then, history will already have passed its judgment.
