Hey Coaches and ADs
Why is it that some teams just can’t keep a coach? They seem so great when they got hired yet it always turns out the same in the end. Is it their leadership style? Or is it possible that they lack the tools to effectively transition and create the environment needed for change, before implementing their new approach?
It’s a unique skill set that really isn’t taught, to enter a toxic culture and quickly, but also effectively, gain trust, buy-in, connection, and create the pathway to lasting positive change. In athletics, the formula is complicated by a unique dynamic of involvement between parent/coach/admin/trainers/community and league.
Throwing a new leader without transition training into a bus still running on toxic fumes from the past is a set up for failure. Train coach’s on how to transition. Create relationships. Use a change timeline. Use feedback and open conversation. Connect. Connect. Connect. Be firm in principles and flexible on methods. Communicate one on one more often than mass communication. Balance vulnerability & strength. Accept honest feedback and address it with appreciation and action.
Train your awesome new hire replacements on culture change to set them up for long term success and break the cycle once and for all.
So Buster Posey caught 9291 2/3 innings and only had 27 pass balls. Only 1 pass ball every 344 innings. So his traditional catching stance was pretty good.
Tips to throw the elusive ride-cutter.
@FlatgroundApp
• Preset wrist into radial deviation
• Throw it like a regular fastball
• Try tucking thumb
If you have above average VB & hand size, this may be a pitch to play around with.
Rarely thrown + high whiff rate.
