In light of a bunch of recent pedestrian deaths, I’m updating a #VisionZero#WalkTO#BikeTO thread with new(er) data. I’m not a planner, engineer, or any other type expert on the subject – but I analyze policy-related data for a living. Let’s dive in… 1/
My greatest fear, one I’ve talked about for years now, is the western world’s descent into neofeudalism.
Imperialist rhetoric, a new oligarchy (neo-aristocracy), regulatory capture, a shift to zero-sum thinking.
Liberalism feels like it’s dying with a whimper.
Happy New Year Toronto 🥳🥂
I want to share 10 IDEAS TO MAKE TORONTO BETTER this year!
They fall into 4 categories!
1) Public Realm & Street Life
2) Housing & Affordability
3) Transit & Mobility
4) Governance & Efficiency

I'm really excited to share this new analysis on the ideological dimensions of Canadian public opinion.
It's a long read, but I think a very valuable guide to understanding the nuances of Canadians right now and what it means for 2025
Enjoy! #cdnpoli#ideology#elections #polling

"Housing is now the unofficial third leg of the national retirement scheme — and we’re all paying the price." — @C_AnthonyMilton https://t.co/yuH4LyjEnO
Newly released study shows that separated bike lanes reduce maximum car speeds by 28%, average speeds for turning cars by 21%, and 8% for cars going straight.
If cities want to reduce speeding, they should install separated/protected bike lanes—it’ll also get more people biking!
I'd also be curious to see how many people have switched to short GO train rides (like from Danforth station), especially since fare integration started, largely skipping TTC altogether.
My latest, on the Conservative own-goal on carbon pricing: it isn’t just carbon pricing they’ve discredited, it’s pricing, markets — and conservatism https://t.co/O4JM7X7vEq
While many pundits and reporters are focused on confidence votes — there’s a huge fiscal & public policy issue that the BQ and Blanchet have raised:
Should OAS be boosted for all seniors (as of 65) or just those over 75?

RCT introduction of a pollution market in Surat, Gujarat.
Pollution fell by 20–30%, and efficiently — gains came from the firms who could cut pollution most effectively.
Mortality benefits are *25 times* costs.
An incredible state/research collaboration.
