🔥 Chamath Shuts Down Axios’ Dan Primack on Immigration and H-1B’s
“A handful of companies in certain countries have abused this system. You need to stop and tourniquet the bleeding so that you can reestablish trust with the American population.”
@guzzi_g5@ccliffy90@BuzzPatterson Prices aren't "way higher" in America than Europe—many areas are much cheaper. Ignore outliers like NY/LA and look at medians. US median wages beat every European country.
@guzzi_g5@ccliffy90@BuzzPatterson In 1991, Europe was far more competitive and held much more leverage on the global stage than it does today, as its markets were trading higher than the rest of the world. Now, however, both the United States and Asia significantly outpace it.
@guzzi_g5@ccliffy90@BuzzPatterson A man walking forward can still fall behind a man who is running. That’s what I mean by decline. Europe may still grow, but if the U.S. compounds faster in GDP, wages, capital, and tech, Europe loses rank and leverage. Britain’s fall below U.S. states per capita shows the trend.
@ccliffy90@BuzzPatterson The whole of EU was out-pacing the US GDP in 1991, now the EU has fallen behind by almost 15 Trillion now. The EU could be dependent on the US for major tech stacks like AI, which will push the GDP gap further. The EU is in decline, and most europeans don’t know it.
I’m thinking we get a trilogy.
Young Washington, General Washington, and President Washington.
Screw it, let’s make movies on all of the young founders and then get a 1776 avengers movie.
Chris Pratt was rejected for multiple Marvel roles before almost turning down the one that changed his career.
Before landing the role of Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt auditioned for several Marvel Studios characters, and was rejected every time.
After so many disappointments, he decided he was done auditioning for superhero movies.
When the opportunity for Guardians of the Galaxy came, he initially said no, convinced they would reject him again.
But after seeing himself in Zero Dark Thirty, he realized he could convincingly play both a tough action hero and a funny character.
He finally agreed to audition, but with a different mindset.
Instead of trying to guess what Marvel wanted, he walked in, trusted his instincts, and played the character his own way.
That audition earned him the role that transformed his career.
Sometimes the opportunity that changes everything is the one you're most tempted to walk away from.
🇯🇵🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day to our friends in the United States!
This song is very popular here in Japan and many artists often cover it. I particularly love this one.
