@Jonathan_Witt In general. I would not want doctors to be produced ad infinitum at risk of what you mentioned earlier, but decreasing doctor production won’t benefit many long term. Rather address the problem than taking a few steps back and having even more problems years down the line.

@Jonathan_Witt They are most definitely not endless, but a tighter reign on expenditure and not a R1.5 trillion loss from 2014 to 2019 could provide quite a few more hospital placements that would benefit the people of SA.

@Jonathan_Witt With a 0.9 doctors to 1,000 patients in SA according to the World Bank in 2017, we cannot afford to slow down the production of doctors. If we’re talking long term plans this should be the bottom line and not further restricting the growth of doctors

@Jonathan_Witt I agree with this thread completely until the last tweet. As a first year intern working in state, this should not be the bottom line. Bottom line should be better management of funds to optimize utilization of funds to afford more posts.

Let's get this straight, the NDoH KNOWS how many graduates there are going to be. They make it COMPULSORY for these graduates to work for 3 years but "can't find" the funds for these posts. We are in a PANDEMIC....but Digital Vibes hey.
