Several people have DM’d me, and unfortunately it has come to my attention that racists/anti-immigrants have found this, and are saying vile, despicable stuff about our players, and saying stuff like “how Canadian” the team is.
1) I will never endorse that stuff.
2) Even though it’s virtually completely useless, I blocked and reported all of those accounts.
3) These players are more Canadian than you cowards. Unlike you guys, these guys are actually making a positive contribution to Canadian society, uniting the country and bringing people together. You guys are just spewing hate and fear to divide the country, and cause chaos. I guess misery loves company.
Canada’s strength is its diversity and unity, not division and hatred.
At risk of upsetting a few people here, 24 Sussex is one of those small things that reveals something deeper about our political culture, unfortunately.
We've known for a decade the official residence was falling apart and nobody wanted to make the call because the optics of spending money on a house were too uncomfortable. So instead we just let it rot and in the process are gonna end up needing to spend more. This is too often how we handle things in Canada. Everyone focuses on the short term optics and doesn't want to risk bad press, so it's hard to make tough decisions that will invite pushback even if they are necessary and often forces worse or more costly decisions down the road.
Canada's PM needs an official residence up to the task. Somewhere to host foreign leaders etc and somewhere secure, something just like leaders of other countries we consider our peers. Just get it sorted, whatever that looks like.
"Your understanding of the word guarantee is very different than that of most Albertans"
"Most people are deeply deeply troubled at the prospect of you reforming Health Care based on your 15 year record of advocating to make people pay out of pocket"
@RachelNotley called it.
BREAKING: The Alberta NDP has unveiled an affordability platform ahead of the next election, proposing an $18 minimum wage by 2027, gas tax cuts when oil prices are high, grocery price measures, and support for first-time home buyers.
Aside from how disastrous this would be for CNN’s domestic political coverage, CNN has some of the best international journalists on the planet. The incompetence and ideological tilt Bari Weiss has demonstrated at CBS would be corrosive to global journalism.
Unequivocally good news on the Canadian employment front this morning. Employment rose by a huge 88,000 positions in May, the unemployment rate fell 0.3 percentage points to 6.6% and private sector jobs rose by 56,300 positions, also a very substantial gain.
