@ericlippert Thank you for the reply! Sorry for the negative framing. What I'm looking for is definitive guidance. This is a big gotcha, but the only references to this are on old blogs and SO, nothing more authoritative. Our feeling was that Microsoft should weigh in on this officially.

@ericlippert I came across this post of yours from 2009: https://t.co/JZZauiKqLK Doesn't the same pattern (acquire lock inside the try) apply to other locks, e.g. Mutex, ReaderWriterLockSlim? If so, why isn't acquiring the lock inside the try the best practice? (e.g. in MS docs)
