A 56 year old man vanished from a military garrison, the campus of 57 Mountain Division of the Indian Army in Manipur on 25 November, 2024. The missing man, a Meitei, who is a supervisor for a contractor working with Military Engineering Services at Leimakhong military detachment, is yet to be traced.

Incidentally, he went missing reportedly near an unofficial road, connecting the two "Kuki" dominated districts of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, that passes through the military garrison. Concerns have been raised as to how this road comes into existence.

That a person went missing from the military garrison does not augur well for the army and civil-military relation in this troubled state. Unfortunately, the armed forces, just as police, have already come under allegations of being partisan in this violent crisis in Manipur.

I urge our Hon'ble Defence Minister Shri @rajnathsingh ji to look into this issue and do the needful.
