@natkpowell Not trying to litigate the strengths of their work. However, they are well regarded within their specializations (development economics, economic history etc.) in a way that the others listed are not.
@ibuildthecloud In my view future is end to end deterministic simulation testing for distributed systems/state management. Agents excel when it’s available. However software hasn’t caught up yet.
@jmbollenbacher@repligate Frankly, I’d just not use agents for this kind of work without reviewing/approving their actions thoroughly. They’re just not reliable enough yet to trust to not make these kinds of mistakes.
@jdcmedlock In Manhattan rent controlled units get passed down as generational wealth, and the practice of illegally subletting these units for profit is widespread. It’s their version of prop 13. Mamdani only proposals in this area would make the problem worse.
@corsaren It doesn’t matter fundamentally whether the brain is a computer or not. The important part of computational functionalism is the “functionalism” not the “computational”. If it turns out that the brain isn’t a computer, it could still be simulated in one.
@OwhGBoy@MovieEndorser Time traveling aliens powered by love. Also, they ended the movie living in a space station with recycled air. If that were possible the central conflict of movie, that earth’s atmosphere was polluted to the point that it became uninhabitable, is invalidated.
@NathanpmYoung I don’t support the CA wealth tax but to be clear the typical answer would be to allow the tax to be paid in kind ie the gov gets shares your startup.
@sporadica Miami tech won’t happen because there aren’t top tier universities in or near Miami. Bay Area tech is the result of co locating human and financial capital (VC’s near Berkeley and Stanford), coupled with path dependency via semiconductor industry.
@lymanstoneky Well there are clearly multiple relevant inflection points. Earlier, the renaissance, and its technologies/institutions represents another.
@ben_golub@tedfrank IMO Tyler with Annie Jacobsen was pretty disappointing for this reason. Tyler’s background as Schelling’s student shone through and Annie was seemingly unable to answer some pretty straightforward questions eg when their conversation centered on India/Pakistan.
