LATEST: Somaliland Foreign Minister Abdirahman Dahir Adan Bakaal (@min_abdirahman ) has defended Somaliland's relations with Israel, telling Sky News Arabia that Somaliland is "not the first Muslim country" to establish ties with Israel.
History rewards those who build their state, preserve their sovereignty, and endure with purpose; Somaliland’s journey reminds the world that political realities cannot be ignored forever, and that recognition begins when the world acknowledges what a people have already built.
Somaliland has announced plans to make marriage more accessible for young people as part of its efforts to increase the population to around 10 million in the coming years.#Somaliland
Somaliland is already a country in reality. Recognising that reality would serve U.S. interests and strengthen its strategic position. American foreign policy is most effective when it reflects facts on the ground. 🇺🇸 #Somaliland
The President’s visit to the United States was an opportunity to put Somaliland’s statehood on the diplomatic agenda through both dialogue and action. May the sweat, sacrifices, and tireless efforts of our people finally bear fruit.

SOMALILAND PORTS AUTHORITY PROVIDED RESCUE TO A LIVESTOCK BOAT DEPARTED FROM AXWAR PORT IN YEMEN AND HEADING TO DJIBOUTI PORT
The #Somaliland Ports Authority (SPA), in coordination with the Somaliland Coast Guard – Berbera Station, successfully rescued a livestock boat sealed from Axwar Port, #Yemen, to #Djibouti Port.
The boat departed Axwar Port on 19 September 2026, carrying approximately 1,500 heads of livestock and six crew members. On 20 September 2026, the boat suffered an engine failure and remained stranded at sea for approximately five days, during which around 220 livestock died.
The boat eventually drifted into waters off on the sea eastern Somaliland, in the direction of Gambaxo Village. Following the emergency, the SPA and the Somaliland Coast Guard’s Berbera Station carried out a coordinated rescue operation and brought the boat and its six crew members safely to Berbera Port.
Upon arrival, the SPA, in coordination with veterinary doctors from the Ministry of Livestock and Rural Development at Berbera Port, provided immediate assistance and veterinary care to the surviving livestock and SPA Port Health Unity provided medical support to the crew.
After the surviving livestock have had time to rest, they will be transferred to another boat that is ready to take them to their destination port , Djibouti Port.
The Government of Somaliland remains firmly committed to providing humanitarian assistance and emergency maritime support whenever such situations arise, particularly to vessels and boats carrying various types of cargo that transit along Somaliland’s coastline or through international waters in the vicinity of the maritime boundaries of the Republic of Somaliland.
Somaliland will continue to cooperate with relevant emergency Units and international partners to safeguard human life, protect cargo, and promote safety and security at sea.
Today, thousands of Somalilanders gathered at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza, just steps from United Nations headquarters in New York, as world leaders filled the General Assembly for its high-level week.
The rally achieves four things. First, it lets world leaders, many of whom may know little about Somaliland, see with their own eyes a people standing firmly behind their cause.
Second, it emboldens the voices of reason who already know, yet still speak quietly, that what sits in Mogadishu is a political gang dressed as a government, much like Maduro's in Caracas.
Third, it sends a clear message that every people deserves freedom from a ruthless and merciless ruler, one who has driven hundreds of thousands of his own clan from their homes and spent the proceeds on luxury mansions in Turkey's most exclusive neighbourhoods.
Finally, it reminds the world that Somaliland stands right on the Bab el-Mandeb, precisely where the world needs a dependable partner against the Houthis, a terrorist group with whom HSM and his circle sympathise.
Somaliland President @Abdirahmanirro once again takes the Republic of Somaliland’s message to the global stage, this time at @CFR_org, the Council on Foreign Relations, one of the world’s leading forums for foreign policy and international affairs.
At the Council on Foreign Relations @CFR_org in New York, I presented Somaliland’s case and its 35-year record of peace, democracy and effective governance.
Recognition is Somaliland’s historical and legal right and a strategic investment in security, trade and stability across the Horn of Africa.
