Counterpoint: Getting in the weeds over the accuracy of him quoting scripture misses the broader issue. Gov't officials quoting scripture or preaching from the official podiums at press conferences or in their official roles is, at best, highly inappropriate.
This is an excellent scissor event b/c Hegseth doesn't say it's a bible verse, he says it's a prayer he got from a CSAR (combat search and rescue) commander which is clearly cribbed from Pulp Fiction
Hegseth says "I think it's meant to reflect Ezekiel 25:17" which... I guess it does in the sense that the Pulp Fiction Ezekiel 25:17 cribs from the actual Ezekiel 25:17
"And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them."
To a serious intellectual Christian, this is all a little embarrassing that our co-religionists are unironically using the Tarantino Gospel as an actual prayer.
But this is going to end up with one side saying "Pete Hegseth quoted a fake Bible verse from Pulp Fiction" and the other side saying "He never said it was a Bible verse". Both these things are kind of true but trying to explain the details to someone who doesn't want to change their mind is going to be more trouble than it is worth and so we will split between these two narratives.
@sabro920@MeidasTouch I agree that parts of the media aren't pressing DoD and the admin on this enough, but the story is literally from the Wall Street Journal, the most legacy of legacy media.
TRUMP: Who are you with?
REPORTER: Newsmax
TRUMP: You're not doing a very good job

TRUMP: You're not doing a good job. Did you hear me? I'm taking CNN over Newsmax. Can you believe it?
Trump’s former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis:
“America is becoming predatory. America is unreliable. There’s a sense that we are not a reliable security partner right now…you can’t bring allies on board if they don’t trust you”
@ambrose_pike@sentdefender Tell me you know nothing about Marines without telling me...
But seriously, the bayonet is still a part of Marine training bc in ground combat, infantry still find themselves in hand to hand combat, even with all the tech advancements.
An Irish immigrant with a valid US work permit has been held in ICE detention in Texas for nearly five months despite having no criminal record, the Irish Times reports. Seamus Culleton, who has lived in the US for over 20 years, is married to a US citizen and was in the final stages of a green card application when he was arrested in September. He describes detention conditions akin to a “concentration camp,” limited access to outdoors, and constant hunger. A judge initially approved his release on bond, but the US government later blocked it.
His lawyer says the case is highly unusual and reflects arbitrary enforcement by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE did not respond with comment on the story at the time of publication.

This father was doing all of his legal immigration check-ins and had no criminal record.
He’s one of those heroic parents who dedicated his life to taking care of his disabled son, whom he was told would not live past five without a miracle.
As his son said, his father was his miracle, and he lived a meaningful, well loved life deep into adulthood. Then ICE snatched his father — and his son, as predicted, died without him. ICE did not let him attend the funeral.
Nothing about the video that's circulating looks like the man either:
1) had a gun at the moment of his execution
2) actively pulled it on the 10 officers that were tackling him
If the simple possession of a firearm justifies extrajudicial execution by the state, then every American who peacefully exercises their Second Amendment rights is a target.
Hey @PeteHegseth I know you didn't have a lot of experience as an actual leader, so here's a quick refresher!
Of course, the "noone is above the law" administration never applies that standard to themselves.
@crisisofconsc When I saw your post yesterday, I had no idea we'd be saying goodbye to our crunchy old man Rambo a few hours later. One of life's great inequities is our mismatched lifespans.
@TracketPacer This probably won't be one your most "successful" posts but it's one of my favorites, and that's a high bar bc I'm also an easily entertained nerd that loves learning new things (respectfully). Thank you for being a positive voice on this hot mess of a platform!
Hey quick question @SecWar, if I'm a DoD employee and decide to hold a non-Christian religious gathering at work, using federal time and resources, would I get to keep my job? Asking for the Constitution and Federal Law....
