@employableguy@privatebirb It sounds hard to believe, but ADHD is caused by a lack of dopamine. Sometimes you just cannot go. The only solution is a 3rd party or one of those apps that require you to take a picture of something to turn the alarm off (if you get used to the alarm going off you are screwed).
@employableguy@privatebirb And this is the worst one: you simply cannot. I wish I was kidding. The alarm goes off and you literally cannot force yourself to go unless you are threatened with consequences in the next 5 minutes. For me, I get stuck like this for 0-30 minutes. For some it's hours.
The trouble with the time blindness thing (and all disability really) is that normies say "You should put in effort" to say "You're not working hard enough" and then disabled people say "I'm putting in more effort than you are" before normies get defensive and say
everyone believes on paper that there are understandable reasons someone may be late through no fault of their own, but in practice no one thinks the person who’s inconvenienced them has a legitimate excuse or deserves grace. being frustrated is reasonable, assuming malice is not
the fundamental issue at the core of lateness discourse is a lot of people if they see that someone is struggling with simple things, instead of trying to understand what the challenge is they default, to oh theyre stupid i need to explain the concept that being late is rude
@Parallaxterror@IndiBayo@CatJamarchist@Michaeljhandy@thebigjuiceer@loserbent Dude I don't disagree with that. What I'm saying is that these statements are wrong:
1. ADHDers are weaponizing incompetence by intentionally wasting people's time.
2. Chronic lateness is a trivial problem for all people with ADHD. Those who don't fix it are choosing not to.
@IndiBayo@CatJamarchist@Michaeljhandy@thebigjuiceer@loserbent People get in traffic, get lost in new places, use the bathroom, busses are late. There are tons of reasons people are late. A mental disorder is just another on the pile.
I wait for my friends and they for me. It's not the end of the world. I've been on both ends.
@IndiBayo@CatJamarchist@Michaeljhandy@thebigjuiceer@loserbent Hilarious of you to pin a misunderstanding as an intentional malicious act. You're such an instigating little snake.
And no, I haven't lost any friendships to being sometimes slightly late to an otherwise time insensitive hangout. That part just sounds like you are projecting.
@moderndaybc Shit my bad. I got you confused with someone else.
You should know that a bunch of people on here are saying we're doing this shit on purpose and it really pissed me off. I lost my train of thought halfway through writing that last reply and got you confused with one of those.
@CatJamarchist@Michaeljhandy@thebigjuiceer@loserbent What you are to do is not do dumb shit like accuse me of being late on purpose.
If you can't take me being late sometimes, and you aren't able/willing to accommodate then fine. Understandable.
But don't you fucking dare imply I chose to be like this.
That’s not true. I set alarms all the time. They tell me when to get up, they dnt do much else after that. And it’s very easy for me to set an alarm without factoring in time for things like walking to the car, because I dnt think about those things
@SACRIFlClUM Idk about you but sometimes when I pick up my phone to set an alarm I immediately forget and get distracted by some app.
And I can't for the life of me convince myself to get somewhere early, because if I know I'm gonna make it on time I can't stop myself from slowing down.
Some of you think it’s literally abusive to be late and that if anyone is late it must be because they’re entitled and view themselves above everyone else and for no other possible reason
@ISASaxonists Here we go again with the "couldn't be bothered with", when it's really "They tried, but because they're disabled they're occasionally late anyway".
I swear there's a short circuit in ableist's brains that automatically makes them assume every disabled person is evil.
