Fairness begins with understanding the full story. People should be judged by their own actions, not by circumstances imposed upon them. Their children and families deserve compassion, stability, and a fair chance.

Borderlines Podcast #235 - IRGC Conscripts Face Deportation. @hq_cpc MP @GarnettGenuis has a Solution.
Canada designated Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization in 2024. But what happens to people who were forced to serve in the IRGC through mandatory military conscription, committed no crimes, and later immigrated to Canada?
We are joined by Conservative Member of Parliament Garnett Genuis to discuss the growing immigration crisis facing former IRGC conscripts and their families. In 2023, Genuis introduced Bill C-350, which proposed amending Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to distinguish between individuals who voluntarily joined terrorist organizations and those who were forcibly conscripted.
The proposed amendment would protect individuals who completed only their mandatory service, did not remain voluntarily, and did not participate in terrorism, espionage, or subversion. Despite the subsequent designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization, this proposed legislative solution was never adopted. The discussion explores why the government has not acted, the consequences of Canada's current inadmissibility framework, the limitations of judicial review and humanitarian relief, and what affected individuals can do to advocate for legislative reform.

Canada must ensure IRCC and CBSA have clear, official guidelines that distinguish forced service from willing participation. Innocent people deserve fairness, dignity, and protection—not lifelong consequences for choices they never had.#ConscriptsAreNotMembers#HumanRights
In Iran, without finishing compulsory service, you can't open a bank account, get a driver's license, or go to university. It's required just to live a normal life. Treating forced service like a choice makes zero sense.

MPs: please act. Canada needs clear guidelines distinguishing forced conscripts from genuine IRGC members. Mandatory conscription alone should not make innocent applicants targets of inadmissibility. A legislative solution, building on the approach proposed in Bill C-350, can protect national security and fairness together.

We didnt have any choice, we were innocent compulsory conscript, we were like prisoners and members were like prison gaurd, we didn’t its members at all.
Imagine being forced into military service just to go to college or get a job, and then getting punished for it years later. Iranian conscripts do not get a choice in serving, so treating them like voluntary members makes no sense. #JusticeForIranianConscripts #ConscriptsAreNotMembers
