The Brand Finance Automobiles 100 2026 report highlights a sector facing mounting pressure, with its total brand value falling to USD575.4 billion, down 7% year-on-year following a 1% decline in 2025.

While electric vehicle adoption continues to rise globally, growth has been slower than anticipated. Concerns around charging infrastructure, battery durability, and upfront costs have tempered consumer confidence.

At the same time, manufacturers that invested aggressively in electrification are facing excess inventories and margin compression, highlighting a widening gap between policy ambition and near-term market readiness.

Against this landscape, @ToyotaMotorCorp retains its position as the world’s most valuable automobile brand for the second consecutive year, despite its brand value declining 3% to USD62.7 billion. Its continued leadership reflects strong global sales performance, particularly in hybrid models, alongside high levels of familiarity, visibility, and reliability across major markets.

@MercedesBenz ranks second (brand value down 12% to USD46.6 billion), impacted by weaker demand in China, tariff pressures in the US, and declining profitability.

Meanwhile, @BMW holds third position (brand value up 3% to USD43.8 billion), supported by a diversified portfolio spanning internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles, alongside resilient performance in Europe and the US.

In terms of brand strength, Toyota also leads as the world’s strongest automobile brand, achieving a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 92.5/100 with an AAA+ brand strength rating. Its leadership is underpinned by exceptionally strong brand equity across key markets, including Japan, China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, France, Spain, Norway, Denmark, and Australia. BMW secure its position as the second strongest automobile brand with BSI score of 88.9/100 and an AAA brand strength rating.
