Help freshwater folks with snail ID! We have these snails in our pond samples. Photos below. The top of the shell is coiled but flat and smooth. The pond is a site others have dumped critters from fish tanks into.

Does anyone have an idea on what this spiral looking item is? Students were identifying better plankton and an introductory lab and came across it. The sample came from a pond and the photo is at 100x magnification.
