Disturbing reports continue to emerge from Vikas Nagar, Dehradun, Uttarakhand IND , where Muslims from other states are being targeted, asked to show their Aadhaar cards, and subjected to mob violence. What is even more alarming is the perception that such actions are being carried out with impunity, allegedly emboldened by the inaction of the authorities. There appears to be little to no crackdown on extremist groups like the Bajrang Dal, raising serious questions about whether hate crimes are still being treated as crimes at all.
In a shocking incident, two Kashmiri Muslim youths were brutally assaulted in Vikas Nagar. The victims, both from Kashmir, were at a local shop buying goods and speaking in Kashmiri when the shopkeeper allegedly began abusing them. He then asked for their names and questioned whether they were Muslims.
Soon after, the shopkeeper reportedly stepped outside, returned with an iron rod, and attacked the 18-year-old boy, striking him on the head and causing severe injuries that required 18 stitches. The second youth was beaten so badly that his arm was broken. The injured boys were first taken to a local hospital and later referred to Doon Hospital, Dehradun, for further treatment.
This incident has sparked grave concerns about communal profiling, vigilantism, and the growing violence against Kashmiri Muslims, as well as the apparent failure of law enforcement to act decisively against such hate-driven crimes.
