Polycrisis and Global Inequality. Multiple crises aren’t separate shocks—they’re structurally linked and embedded in unequal global relations, shaping who bears risk and who holds power.

Nairobi decided to show up...I believe in it.
So happy me & Ubax of @chechebooks managed to organise this event within 2 weeks.
I have organised so many events..I never seen this before.
Is Nairobi the intellectual hub of East Africa or Africa?
Trump is more likely to explore a deal — either with Tehran directly or with elements inside the existing power structure — rather than gamble on regime collapse. Read more from @tparsi:

Taye Dendea has been sentenced to another 7+ years. When I wrote about his resilience months ago, I hoped visibility would matter. Today’s verdict shows why it must. https://t.co/unQi1sXDsn
Taye Dendea, the former State Minister of Peace, has been sentenced to seven years and two months in prison by the kangaroo court. His so-called crime is the police “discovering” a single AK-47 in his home, a weapon that was given to him by the government for personal protection while serving as minister!
What a joke!
The piece incisively traces Ethiopia’s structural-adjustment dependency across two administrations but neglects the agency of domestic political and technocratic elites in shaping borrowing choices—rendering the analysis overly deterministic.

Fikir Haile highlights ways the current government of Ethiopia differs with its predecessor in their engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and explains how the previous government resisted the neoliberal pressure.
Here is my Raila story which I never told before.
I was a young researcher, it was days after the outbreak of post-election violence in late 2007/8. I was eager to write my first report on Kenya.
I toured the Rift Valley extensively, witnessed the intense ethnic violence, interviewed victims. It was a harrowing experience.
One late afternoon, by accident I bumped into Rt Hon Raila and his entourage at the ground floor of the building where I worked. He was going to the Al-Jazeera office for a live broadcast on the situation in Kenya.
I had been chasing his aides to get an interview without luck for days. I saw my chance.
I rushed to him, introduced myself, and pleaded for an interview. His bodyguards looked angry and wanted to shoo me away.
I got a 30min interview next day. He was relaxed and absolutely confident he was robbed of victory in 2007.
History has since vindicated him.
Over the years, I did not get many chances to see him physically but I could call or text him every once in while if I needed to hear his perspective.
He always responded.
He was down to earth, accessible, treated everyone with respect.
You don't get that from many top people in this country.
Deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and former Prime Minister of Kenya, Mr. Raila Odinga. He was a towering statesman and a cherished friend of India. I had the privilege of knowing him closely since my days as Chief Minister of Gujarat and our association continued over the years. He had a special affection for India, our culture, values and ancient wisdom. This was reflected in his efforts to strengthen India-Kenya ties. He particularly admired Ayurveda and traditional medicine systems of India, having witnessed their positive impact on his daughter's health. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and to the people of Kenya in this hour of grief.
France’s old habits die hard. Its latest “humanitarian gesture” in Madagascar looks less like aid than imperial maintenance — a state rescuing its clients, airlifting an authoritarian ally.
Interesting read ( in relation to trade & industrial policy in Africa & the opportunity that #AfCFTA might offer to adress challenges raised in the paper, say through intra Africa trade in maufctured goods👇 ) 1/2👇
