World Sindhi Congress Expresses Solidarity with Lawyers Protesting Destructive Canal Projects on Indus River in Sindh
London, UK – The World Sindhi Congress (WSC) stands in unwavering solidarity with the lawyers and civil society members in Sindh, Pakistan, who have bravely blockaded the highway in protest against the construction of controversial canals on the River Indus. These projects pose an existential threat to the agricultural lifeline and ecological balance of Sindh.
The lawyers' protest, which includes the significant step of blocking major transportation routes, underscores the deep frustration and desperation felt by the people of Sindh regarding the continued diversion and exploitation of Indus River waters. These projects, often initiated without proper consultation or consideration for Sindh's established water rights and environmental impact assessments, threaten to exacerbate water scarcity, damage agriculture, and displace communities downstream.
WSC Chairperson, Dr. Lakhu Luhano, stated: "The Indus River is the mother of Sindh; its waters are our lifeblood. We vehemently oppose any projects, like the contested Greater Thal Canal and others, that seek to deprive Sindh of its rightful share of water. The lawyers' courageous stand reflects the collective will of the Sindhi people to protect their fundamental rights and resources. WSC salutes their commitment and echoes their demands to halt these detrimental constructions immediately."
Adding to this, WSC senior leader, Ms. Hafeezan Wadhio, commented: "The blockade is a powerful message to the authorities that the people of Sindh will not stand idly by while their future is compromised. These canal projects are not merely infrastructure; they represent an ecological and social injustice against Sindh. We commend the legal fraternity for taking this bold action and demanding accountability and respect for Sindh's water rights as enshrined in the 1991 Water Accord."
The World Sindhi Congress calls upon the government of Pakistan and relevant authorities to heed the demands of the protestors, cease construction on the disputed canals, and engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders in Sindh to address their legitimate concerns regarding water distribution and management based on established rights and environmental sustainability.
WSC will continue to monitor the situation closely and support the Sindhi people's struggle for their rights through international advocacy and awareness campaigns.

پارلیمان کی قومی سلامتی کمیٹی کا اجلاس تب نتیجہ خیز ہوسکتا ہے اگر پارلیمان کا قومی سلامتی پالیسی بنانے میں کوئی کردار ہوگا ورنہ یہ انگوٹھا چاپ عمل ماضی میں بھی ہوتا رہا ہے ۔ اور نتیجہ صاف ظاہر ہے ۔
چاے پختونخواہ ہو یا بلوچستان میں فوجی آپریشنوں کے نا ختم ہونے والے سلسلے جاری ہیں ۔ ہر کامیاب آپریشن کے بعد نیا آپریشن شروع ہوتا ہے اور ہر آپریشن قاطع اور کمر توڑ ہوتا ہے ۔ جنگی معیشت معدودے چند افراد کیلئے انتہائی منافع بخش ہوتا ہے جبکہ عام عوام کیلئے آپریشن کا مطلب نقل مکانی ، گھر بار ، کاروبار اور انفراسرکچر کی تباہی اور بربادی اور بھوک اور افلاس ہوتا ہے ۔ اسٹیبلشمنٹ کے تجربے جب ناکام ہوجاتے ہیں اور پھنس جاتی ہے تو پھر انکو پارلیمان یاد آجاتی ہے قومی اتفاق رائے یاد آجاتی ہے ۔
