@ONThealth why is Ottawa Paramedic Service not allowing paramedics to transport all CTAS 2 patients to the closest hospital? Instead they’re having to go across the city resulting in transport times of 20+ mins. This seems like a deliberate breaking the law 🧐🧐🧐
Today, we raised the Ottawa Paramedic Service flag at City Hall with @_MarkSutcliffe and @RiverWardRiley to kick off #ParamedicServicesWeek 2023! Consult our Youtube video of the event below.

On #InternationalWomensDay we celebrate the women within our membership, their achievements & the work they do everyday @OttFire to keep our city safe – serving in Operations, Safety, Communications, Prevention & Training. #IWD2023#EmbraceEquity#OttCity
Have you recently had to wait for an ambulance? How long did it take? We would love to speak to you about your experience for our broadcast story. Please reach out to @LeahCTV or [email protected]. #ottnews
Paramedic placements are in a similar crisis. Some service environments are so unhealthy for the workers, why willingly accept the added responsibility of a student when every shift has overrun, missed meals, BS investigations & management breathing down your neck about CYA
@GarnettGenuis@KellyBlockmp Congrats so the far right can continue to push their dangerous rhetoric and racist views. You’re actively wanting to make Canada worse 🙄 #cdnpoli
@Eric4real83@ottawalevelzero@ottawacity Interesting take because I didn’t take the original tweet as talking down on PCP. Many PCP crews will request ACP backup for calls and shouldn’t be denied that support, regardless of if it’s a resuscitation or something less life threatening like pain management.
From 2010 to 2019, paramedic transports outpaced population growth fourfold <https://t.co/686JoXbTdL> and paramedic services have only become further resource depleted since. Ask municipal candidates how they plan to prioritize paramedics and the community they serve. #canlab
This whistleblower jokes about yawning about @OttawaParamedic being #LevelZero but they know it means:
- people waiting in pain
- people dying while waiting
- loss of confidence in 911
- paramedic staff burning out
What would #OttawaVotes candidates do to help?
You know what’s embarrassing? @CUPEOntario acting like they care about paramedics meanwhile local 503 can’t even take care of their paramedics because they don’t make up enough of the local they’re in 🙄 it’s time for paramedics to represent paramedics #TheyDeserveBetter
@Heavyhaulage21@DevilsA62669071@AndrewLawton That’s why employers are placing their staff that don’t meet requirements on unpaid leave until they do. That follows standard labour practices which is legal.
@RSQT2@OPSEUAmbDiv Completely understand that aspect. The issue I have is these companies (not all of course) also raised their prices due to PPE costs BUT went way beyond and make more profit yet don’t take care of their employees. There needs to be regulation.
@Heavyhaulage21@DevilsA62669071@AndrewLawton Then that just means your sector may not require it but it’s being implemented as society evolves. We aren’t in the Stone Age anymore 🥰
@nospamhereok@awri125@OPSEUAmbDiv@fordnation 100% yes which is why I find it crooked. Bill 124 doesn’t allow hospitals to offer the bonus/protection to current staff that contract nurses receive which is also playing a factor into nurses leaving bedside. Why work for the hospital when you can leave and get way more?
@RSQT2@OPSEUAmbDiv There’s a big difference between those that care about their employees and those that don’t. I worked a “broker” truck and he treated us AMAZING and genuinely cared about our well-being whereas the company truck was the min wage, no lunches, etc.
Just because you call 911 doesn’t mean you require the emergency department. This sounds great to help reduce call volume, unnecessary transports and offload delays!
The proposed “Treat & Refer Pilot Project,” in Middlesex London, would see less urgent calls handled by a single paramedic and referred to the community paramedicine team for follow-up.

@Heavyhaulage21@DevilsA62669071@AndrewLawton It’s been mandated for many employees across various sectors for literally decades example polio, MMR, tetanus, etc. your argument is invalid. It’s part of requirements of the job which can be updated over time. This is an update 🥰
