An area of low pressure over the Mediterranean Sea has developed characteristics of a tropical storm and has been named #Ianos by the National Observatory of Athens. It is expected to come ashore over southern Greece as a vigorous storm on Friday. #medicane

ICON model shows a fully tropical #medicane development over the Mediterranean Sea. Gusts up to 200 km/h and a pure convective eye as seen from satellite simulations. This is impressive!

Ambiente poco favorable para la formación de un #medicane :
- Fuerte viento en altura cerca de la baja 60-70 kt en 300 hPa (amarillo) --> cizalladura del viento
- Ausencia de una baja en superficie germen del #Medicane
- Presencia de cierta baroclinidad /frente incipiente TFP

The forecasts of the possible #medicane have come true, Medicane be named #Cindy and is already in category 1(MTCS) with sustained winds of 116 km / h, now it is on the coast of #Benghazi,(#Libya) and will go N direction. #MedicaneCindy
