The @USEEOC recently included #postpartumdepression as a medical condition that employers must accommodate. Policies and recommendations like this help improve access to evidence-based maternal #mentalhealth care and ensure everyone is able to receive equitable health care.
On 8/11/23 @USEEOC released a proposed rule for employers implementing #PregnantWorkersFairnessAct. A new draft of federal regulation notes employers need to provide women suffering from PPD with accommodations. We submitted a letter in response: https://t.co/BHKsrlfM9K
#HIV self-testing (HIVST) is convenient and discreet, can be used whenever and wherever, and supports people’s access to personalized, accessible prevention and treatment services. Offering an alternative to testing by an HCP can help prevent and stop the spread of #AIDS.
#DYK nurses and #midwives are central to Primary Health Care and are often the first and sometimes the only health professional that people see. They are vital to their local communities and can shape and deliver effective interventions to meet the needs of patients and families.
Traditional midwives can be great allies in efforts to improve women's health in remote areas.
Since 2021, PAHO has trained over 1,000 midwives to identify warning signs in pregnancy and has promoted respect for cultural practices during childbirth in health centers.

Nearly 350,000 births occur in maternity care deserts. It’s important that all women get necessary pre- and post-natal care during and after #pregnancy, which is why we must work to address these disparities by increasing access to maternal care for all.
Current disparities in #maternalhealth have resulted in a higher mortality rate for black women compared to white women. All women should have access to equitable healthcare, regardless of race, socioeconomic background, or location.
"There are also socio-economic reasons for this — such as barriers to accessing insurance that are more likely to affect Black women. And, as @JenniferBarbe15 found, there are also contraceptive deserts." via @TulikaBose_ / @sciam https://t.co/ONKKS4Wl7M
