[Young Doctors Association Pakistan Official @OfficialYDAPak]

A young doctor in Pakistan earns ~Rs 65–70k/month while working 80–100 hours/week.

Same role abroad pays 7x–20x more with better conditions and growth.

This is not disloyalty it’s a rational decision.

If retention matters, pay must reflect reality.

[Dr. Rafi @DrRafi_]

A pay raise for doctors is not charity.

It is health-system protection.

Minimum wage in Punjab is Rs40,000/month for 8-hour duty, Rs192/hour.

Many young doctors earn around Rs65,000–70,000/month after MBBS, house job, night duties, emergency calls and 80–100 hour weeks.

At 100 hours/week:

Rs70,000/month doctor ≈ Rs161/hour
Minimum-wage worker ≈ Rs192/hour

This means a doctor can be earning less per hour than minimum wage.

Fair pay means:

• doctors stay
• wards remain staffed
• patients wait less
• public hospitals become stronger

Pakistan cannot build a strong healthcare system by underpaying the people who run it day and night.

Respect doctors.
Retain doctors.
Protect patients.

[Dr. Rafi @DrRafi_]

Think of a doctor as a national investment.

A doctor takes:

• 5 years of MBBS
• 1 year of house job
• years of postgraduate training
• public hospitals, teachers, wards, patients and exams

This is not cheap.

So when low pay pushes doctors out, Pakistan loses more than one employee.

Pakistan loses years of training, skill, experience and public investment.

Paying doctors fairly is cheaper than replacing them again and again.

Surprisingly a doctors in Pakistan is earning and living with way too less salary than many odd jobs and have started mass escape from Pakistan. Doctors carear at risk. The government needs to support doctors in terms of salaries.

A salary is not judged by the number written on paper.

It is judged by what it can buy.

If doctor pay stays almost fixed while rent, food, transport, fuel, and utilities keep rising…

then the doctor is not earning the same.

The doctor is getting poorer every year.

Low pay + inflation = silent salary cut.

And a silent salary cut becomes a silent push toward migration.

Now look at health spending:

Pakistan spends about 2.9% of GDP on health.

UK spends about 10.9% of GDP.

Australia spends about 10.4% of GDP.

So Pakistan has:

low health spending

fewer doctors
low doctor pay

And still expects high-quality care?

That is not logic.

You cannot strengthen healthcare while weakening its frontline.
