I read this book by local author Kerri Cull a few years back. A collection of stories from local sex workers. A must read!
@Dexter17534921 Totally! I wish this year was able to be outside. The pandemic has created many hurdles. Only being able to celebrate pride online creates access to everyone, but unfortunately is a little less of an impact for what pride represents.
Chapter 67 in the text book was difficult to read w/o putting myself in b/t the pages. The only reason I'm able to afford a house in the next few months is because I'll be living with my triade. 3 incomes Vs. 1 single person income. Monogomy in this econ? No thanks#GNDR1000s2020
@JoshtromboneHKR UGH. Anything that takes away -my- choice for my body sends me in spirals. Reading on Race Fatigue stood out to me. Minorities constantly in fight/flight bc of the extra layer of hurdles they're forced to deal with just to be given the same treatment as white ppl #GNDR1000s2020
@doctorbatman42 I remember in my younger years being addicted to body mod shows like The Biggest Loser. There was a contestant on there who was a broad way actor but could only get "the ugly roles" because she was a large woman. She wanted to lose weight to get better roles... :( #GNDR1000s2020
@ShaveEmily And the women advertised in this ad are all thin, white, and freakishly the same height. No variations.
It's the white corporate mans standard of beauty.
#GNDR1000s2020
@YumnaMadi2 That is like, so exhausting. Like most trends they sizzle & burn out. Then you're left with something you didn't really need in the first place. Except this has more of an impact because it's your body; it's forever. The pressure to be a fad is garbage. #GNDR1000s2020
2/2 The nurses switched to panic mode when the scan revealed her gall bladder was rupturing & she needed emergency surgery.
If she would have went home she would have died. Women's pain is seen as melodramatic. She fought to be seen. She fought for her life. #GNDR1000s2020 :(
1/2 #GNDR1000s2020 The article "How Doctors Take Womenβs Pain Less Seriously" caused me to cry. A friend of mine was waiting in emergency 12 hours writhing in pain. The nurses patted her head, told her to even GO HOME that it was probably stones. My friend demanded the CT scan.
@tiffyyamberr95 Woah. I think I have been just been broken haha. I did not even think about this!
Historically Disney has not been sensitive to any culture & their content is entirely based on white supremacy. There are some films recently that break this pattern. But not enough. #GNDR1000s2020
2/2 By saying all bodies are beautiful we enforce the message that bodies are only valid based on appearance. And that is not the path to radical self acceptance. Our bodies should be the least interesting thing about us.

I have seen improvements in body acceptance. But even Tess still got photo shopped. You can be a fat girl, but lets still cover up that cellulite, and make sure you have an hour glass shape. The message should be all bodies are VALID
@DeniseLoar @SarahAn08326229 "Previous to this I don't think I recognized how much an issue racism is in our own backyards."
You said it. I'm experiencing waves of shock at my lack of knowledge on our history & current problems w/ racism. I only started becoming aware of this a year ago. #GNDR1000s2020
@YumnaMadi2 #GNDR1000s2020 This is a great empathy building video! Great share. The direct and forward conversation is important, and I hope it encourages kids in school that to ask questions and know that it's OK even if the questions may seem more personal than what they're used to.

@KaitlynGrandy#GNDR1000s2020 That video was so disheartening. It's more modern day erasure of indigenous culture. Before I took this course, I had already come to the decision that I would no longer be taking part in the common Canada celebrations. I'll celebrate by furthering my education.
4/4 #GNDR1000s2020 with having pride for this country, & that pride remains absent until recognition of all of Canadaβs people is seen & heard & action is taken toward a fair society.
1/4 #GNDR1000s2020 Week 7&8 in this course is nearly impossible to get through w/o feeling extreme amounts of empathy, wrapped up in deep sorrow. The topics of racism, enslavement, & colonialism is all too scarily present in society rn. The only difference now is that the
3/4 #GNDR1000s2020 through police brutality and the apathy of our government toward missing/murdered indigenous women in Canada is here. It is very much real, & this system needs to be torn down and built upon a new foundation of education, and law reform. I have trouble
