Right now, it can cost $45 a day just to feed a family of six ONE basic meal. Nothing extravagant. Chicken and rice. A simple salad. Maybe bread and cheese for breakfast. Enough water to drink, cook the food, and rinse the plates afterward.
And that’s $45 a day - $1,350 a month - just to eat.

That does not include shelter. Rent. Fuel. Transportation. Medication. School fees. Clothing. Shoes. Bedding. Hygiene supplies. Baby formula. Diapers. Or any of the countless other things a family needs simply to live.
