250 years ago today the Continental Congress appointed a five-member committee to create a draft of the Declaration of Independence.
This conclusively proves that, no matter how urgent and important the task, in any committee one person will end up doing most of the actual work.
German Chancellor Merz: Tomorrow is June 6th, D-Day, when the Americans once ended a war in Europe
Trump: “That was not a pleasant day for you."
Merz: “This was the liberation of my country from Nazi dictatorship” (2025)
@eigenrobot@MaryJackalope Awesome! Let me know if I can help - depending on where you are located I may have a sense of which chapters are the fun ones.
@Overburden60109@eigenrobot It really does depend on the chapter and location. We are a younger-skewing chapter in Virginia and are super chill. I’m 40 and currently the chapter Head Bitch, and my only rule is save a glass of wine for me at the end of the meeting.
@eigenrobot@MaryJackalope DAR lady here! Many/most chapters worth their salt have a committee specifically to help with applications. I joined in 2018 based on a hunch and found myself linked up with a delightful old crone who went digging in my state vital records office FOR me just to get me I.
Those of us in the pro-democracy movement can and should hold both of these positions.
1. We unequivocally reject violence.
2. We will unequivocally oppose efforts by this administration to use last night as an excuse to try to suppress criticism and criminalize dissent.
“No quarter” isn’t some wanna be tough guy line - it means something. An order to give no quarter would mean to take no prisoners and kill them instead. That would violate the law of armed conflict. It would be an illegal order. It would also put American service members at greater risk. Pete Hegseth should know better than to throw around terms like this.
NEW: Pete Hegseth's pastor and mentor says the United States should ban public Masses, Marian processions, and Corpus Christi devotions.
Hegseth invited the anti-Catholic preacher to lead a prayer service at the Pentagon on February 14. https://t.co/KASwkbTy5e
Just unpacking it here.
Ukraine is helping us with Iranian drones, resulting from the war we launched against Iran.
And we're easing sanctions on Russia because of the oil market fallout from the war we launched against Iran.
And Russia is helping Iran with medical aid and intel, in the war we launched against Iran.
And Trump is frustrated with Ukraine because it's still at war with Russia.
@PaulaYScanlan Cancer patients and others with compromised immune systems have been masking for my entire life. It’s just that being triggered by them didn’t become part of your personality until the pandemic. Hope this helps!
Look, I would love to see regime change in Iran. The Iranian people deserve to live free from persecution and oppression. But the United States is currently run by wildly incompetent people who lie to Americans constantly and ignore Congress and Judges. Trump campaigned on the exact opposite foreign policy
How much more open does he need to be before people accept that he’s telling the truth about his intentions. He’s going to screw with the election, and he and his cronies are not ceding power. January 6th was a test, and we failed it. Stop minimizing what he’s flat out saying.
