@m_scribe Interesting how she assumes
illness of adults --> disrupted schools --> lower academic test scores
as opposed to mechanisms like loss of a parent/important adult figure, concern about bringing home illness to adults, etc.
We had our house professionally cleaned this week for the 1st time since the pandemic began (i.e., 1st time in our 4 YO's memory).
4 YO, upon seeing her very nicely made bed, complete with stuffed animal arrangement: "See, Mama, this is how you make a bed."
Noted.
One of my children had a speech delay that required therapy. This was in 2013. If it happened during the pandemic we may have attributed it to masking as we were out of our minds with worry and needed an explanation.
I've often thought about this when people talk about "hidden populations" - it makes it sound like some people are just shy, when in fact these populations are typically "hidden" due to years and years and years of stigma.
Driving 3.5YO home from preschool.
Me: Do you think we should give our car a name?
3.5YO: Yes!
Me: OK, what should it be?
3.5YO: Signature Malfunction.
.......
Sen. Joe Manchin: "I trusted Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh when they testified under oath that they also believed Roe v. Wade was settled legal precedent and I am alarmed they chose to reject the stability the ruling has provided for two generations of Americans."
There it is.
Griswold - Contraception
Lawrence - Same-sex relationships
Obergefell - Marriage equality
It does not end at abortion. Republicans will not stop until they have stripped away every freedom they can’t load with bullets.
I'm very glad to be getting vaccinated soon, but this moment that I thought would be so joyful is mostly just feeling like relief tinged with frustration.
We were days away from being in this boat: having to cancel our vaccine appointment because we got COVID. We'll just clear the two week mark in time for our appt on Friday. So frustrated with @DrCaliff_FDA - we could have easily been fully vaccinated before our brush with COVID.
I wish @DrCaliff_FDA could see the number of kids dropping off the schedule because a day or 2 or 3 before their longed-after vaccine, they test positive. The delays did nothing for confidence and everything for incidence. Heartbreaking. #ImmunizeUnder5s
Covid reinfections are not benign: ~39,000 people w/reinfections vs ~5.4 million controls indicates extensive and persistent risk with a "dose-response" (more risk with repeat reinfections)

What's the word for when you cancel a vacation because you're worried about COVID, but then you get COVID anyways?
There should definitely be a word for this. Covidirony?
