Vance is lying his ass off about the politics but it's worth confronting the principle: I don't want to live in a society where doctors are forced to let people just die outside of the ER because they're undocumented and "can't even speak English." That's fucking barbaric
I was always convinced not to go outside of our religion to seek counsel because it would cause me to doubt my faith. Little did I know it was literally church and the actions of my abusive lead pastor that would inspire my deconstruction.
There’s such a focus on rejection of social justice or DEI or whatever we’re against that Christians miss the opportunity to clarify what biblical justice and biblical equity are.
(Inspired by Efrem Smith)
So here's something we need to talk about when we talk about women not marrying.
I have never, in my entire life, known a woman who broke up with a boyfriend because she wanted to focus on her career. (I've known 1 guy who did, though!) She might have said that to him to spare
Most undocumented people pay taxes trusting the IRS will abide by privacy laws. All this will do is scare people into not paying taxes which means less revenue. It’s also ironic how this proves that undocumented people do indeed pay taxes.
@MarcusM14824448@MerleWevr Did the previous administration perpetuate cruelty? I'm sure they had things I would find problematic, but can't think of an analogy off the top of my head. If there was and the church was cheering it, I will be sad about that too.
This deeply saddens me. 😢 Even if you think the program wasn't good (it seemed fine from what I read fwiw), reneging on our promises to people who made the effort and came here 100% legally is a terrible precedent and inhumane.
Remember when they kept telling us that this administration is only concerned about “illegal immigrants?”
Remember how mocked we were for calling it out for the lie that it is?
This is not only unjust, it is cruel and barbaric.
@MerleWevr I'm unsure what Chrisitians should or shouldn't say to the state we live in. But what I am trying it say is that Chrisitians should call cruel actions cruelty and Chrisitians shouldn't be cheering Trump's actions here (I have heard Mennonites do that, hence my plea).
@megbasham It seems to me
the answer to "what must I do..." is "love God, love your neighbor"
The story of Good Samaritan is to help answer "who is the neighbor?"
What do you think?
god could have chosen to become human in a rich and mighty person but instead chose a poor and oppressed person. so to love the poor and oppressed is to love the kind of person god chose to become human in.
merry christmas!
I cannot for the life of me figure out why the United States doesn’t have high speed trains like China. It would make life so much easier for so many Americans.
@mattmlandis Interesting fact, TIL. He did continue to fund the "New Order" in Indonesia after the East Timor genocide , so I wouldn't say his hands are clean. Arguably the least violent modern president though, but in the context of the American empire, that bar is, sadly, quite low.
