Heatwaves can be deadly.
On this #HeatActionDay, we celebrate the incredible work of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers across Africa who are raising awareness and sharing simple ways to #BeatTheHeat.
In Burkina Faso, between April and May, as temperatures rose, @CroixRougeBF reached over 40,000 people in five major towns with life-saving heat safety information, including elderly people and pregnant women.
In coordination with the Ministry of Health, more than 700 people were also referred to health facilities — helping protect those most at risk.
Honoured to welcome @NenaStoiljkovic & Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, and to hear from @BotswanaRed, @Nestle & Aon on the power of partnerships in strengthening resilience.

Deeply saddened by the loss of three dedicated volunteers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo Red Cross in Ituri Province, who are believed to have contracted the Ebola virus on duty, while carrying out dead body management activities on 27 March as part of a humanitarian mission unrelated to Ebola.
At the time of the intervention, the community was not aware of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, and the outbreak had not yet been identified. They are among the first known victims of the outbreak.
On behalf of the @IFRC, I extend my heartfelt condolences to their families, loved ones, fellow volunteers and colleagues. We stand in solidarity with the DRC Red Cross during this painful time.
The IFRC, together with the DRC Red Cross and the ICRC, remains committed to supporting affected communities and strengthening the Ebola response.

Following severe thunderstorms in Free State, South Africa, @RedcrossSa volunteers and local authorities are on the ground conducting assessments to determine the extent of damage to homes, infrastructure, and access routes, as well as identifying affected households and prioritising urgent needs.
Efforts are focused on providing relief and supporting early recovery.
Communities in Zambezi Region, Namibia are facing floods, drought & rising food insecurity. Crops lost and water unsafe.
With support from @NamibiaRedCross supported by @IFRCAfrica Pretoria Cluster, families are trying to cope but needs remain high.
More support is critical
In the Zambezi Region, Namibia, floodwaters have receded, but the impact continues to affect communities.
Families and livestock were displaced, while homes, crop fields, roads, schools, and clinics were damaged, leaving over 2,000 people affected.
In areas still surrounded by water, communities rely on makeshift boats crafted from tree wood to reach safety and access basic services.
At the same time, the risk of waterborne diseases is rising, adding to concerns for already vulnerable households.
