We describe the first 11 ancient (fully and partially reconstructed) HHV-6 genomes (n=6 HHV-6A, n=5 HHV-6B) dating between the Italian Bronze Age and the 14th century CE & first findings on integrated dsDNA viruses in humans using ancient DNA (aDNA).
Our paper on the first ancient Human betaherpesvirus 6 A/B (HHV-6) genomes is published in Science Advances! 🥳

Truly excited and grateful to recieve one @ERC_Research StG. A carrear dream that comes true. Very soon I will be announcing positions at @univienna :)
Our new preprint is out 🚨

Two more human herpesviruses the ancient DNA club - HHV-6A and 6B. These viruses integrate into the telomeres (caps on the end of chromosomes) and a small % of people carry these viruses in EVERY nucleated cell in their body and can pass them on to their offspring.
I am incredibly happy to share our preprint on the first 11 ancient Human betaherpesvirus 6A and 6B (HHV-6A &B) genomes! This was a work done in collaboration with many amazing colleagues! Special shout out to @LucyvanDorp, @DrCJ_Houldcroft and @LehtiSaag! https://t.co/NKXaiJpaPq
Finally our ancient DNA study on Merovingian Flanders is out @PNASNews!
